AEButton Plus Options (like having 28 buttons)

Recommended Posts

I originally posted this over in PPCGeeks, but maybe how cool this app is would be news to somebody over here, too.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Omnia 2 is the best phone I have ever had, mostly because of 2 things: Custom ROMs from Ninja4Hire and AMDzero and AEButton Plus.

AEBPlus is a free app, but adds Show Actions menu if you pay. (Also stops giving you the occasional nag screen.)

I like buttons for one-handed operation. There aren’t a lot of buttons on the Omnia 2, but AEBplus multiplies most of them times 4. (1, 2, 3 Presses, or Long [Hold].)

Just click the square with the “Do not touch Button” and change it to “Handle by AEBPlus”.

You can add any installed programs just by selecting the number of button presses (1, 2, 3, or Long) and selecting #2 Run Application, then browsing for the app you want. Or you can add WM functions, or some AEBPlus functions.

After setting it up the way you want it, copy the AEBPlus.cfg configuration file from Program Files\AEBPlus to your Storage Card. When you flash a new ROM just install to Main Memory, copy/paste your own presets in the AEBPlus.cfg file over the default .cfg and overwrite.

Or you can try mine, below. Just rename without the .zip, as it is not a zip file. (This configuration will probaby not work too well for other phones.)

I have it configured to give me 6 main button categories: Tools, Tasks, Up, Down, Phone, and End. I wind up with a total of about 28 functions including all the buttons, default functions, etc. I can’t seem to change the “Lock” or “Camera” buttons, so if anyone figures out how to do this, please post. Also, Button2 (OK) and Volume Up don’t seem to work as a long press, and Volume down only activates vibrate when held down.

Edit: When in Vibrate mode, holding it down turns the speaker back on. Also, Button 2 Long , or OK Hold, has its own settings.

Button1 (Samsung Shield) (Becomes my Tools key)

1: “Spb Home” gets me back quickly to MS3, Also can be Home, Main Menu, etc.

2. “TCPMP” gets me to my videos

3. “O2Flash” gets me a quick flashlight

Long: None (because the long press is controlled by Button1 Hold)

Button1 Hold (Samsung Shield long press)

1. “Voice Recorder” (“Single press” is the button choice that works for the “long press” option); or Other favorite app

Button2 (This is actually the OK Button) Becomes a Task Key

1. Press Enter (works with programmed Volume keys)

2. “Task Mgr”, “tskmgr.exe”, “Quick Menu”, or favorite Task Manager

3. Show Actions Menu (AEBPlus application) (Many selectable functions not otherwise programmed)(not available in Free version)(pay him, he deserves it J)

Long: OK/Close or None (because the long press is controlled by Button2 Hold or OK Hold)

Edit: OK Button Long (Hold) has its own settings. On AMDzero DG21 ROM it is called OK Hold. Set Single Press in AEB OK Hold, as in Button 1 Hold, above.

Volume UP (Becomes an “UP” key)

Change Volume or…

1. Press Up arrow key

2. Press PageUp

3. Copy to Clipboard (“Up to memory”)

Long: This one doesn’t work to the best of my knowledge

Volume DOWN (Becomes a “Down” Key)

Change Volume or…

1. Press Down arrow key

2. Press PageDn

3. Paste from Clipboard (“Down from memory”)

Long: Samsung makes this switch to Vibrate Mode and back

Green Phone button (Phone)

1. Press Green Button (normal default operation)

2. “Voice Speed Dial” (Cyberion, or whatever)

3. Show Backlight Dialog (AEBPlus application)(then volume buttons raise or lower the backlight because of Up and Down Keys)

Long: Switch Speakerphone Off/On

Red Phone button (End)

Hang Up current call or…

1. Press Red Button (normal default operation)(seems to work as a Minimize button)

2. Close Active application

3. Switch Active Application, or Soft Reset, or Turn OFF wifi, Bluetooth, whatever you want to stop

Long: Power-OFF your device

Of course you can put anything you want in there, and arrange it any way you want. That is the beauty of WM and this app. But for those who want to try it and configure it quickly, my file may get you started faster. You may want to soft reset after copying the file in, but it seems to work for me without that.

Anybody else with any cool uses for this program, please post. Especially if you have figured out how to control the "Lock" button and the "Camera" button.

Again, if you try my file, rename as AEBPlus.cfg without the .zip, as it is not a zip file.

hi, i tried to configure by myself the "Volume UP", with:

1. Press Up arrow key, but it always shows the samsung volume app.

May be I'm doing something wrong..

I've already configured the Button1 with

1. Press Up arrow key, and it works, but I would prefer to map with the Volume UP, like you.

Did you hit Save and Exit?

You might try copying over my .cfg file and see if that helps.

You may also need to do a soft reset after some changes.

As htc touch cruise user i am prefer VOL UP button as 1. Vol Up 2. Voice Command and VOL DWN button as 1. Vol Dwn 2. Recorder

Action Button as 1. Ok/Close programme (Version 23xxx don't have ok button)

Arrow also need to assign when you are using keyboard other than EZ Input and just follow as post no 1, Tqvm

I agree, I have had this program for a couple of years and a total of 4 devices and it works great!

there have been no problem moving the license to my new devices.

I have bound the "cube" button to a mortscript that checks which application that is active and behaves thereafter, in that way making one button do so much more.

You cannot just point aebplus to the mortscript file, you have to make a shortcut to the mortscript exe and take the path to the mortscript as argument and then bind that shortcut to the aebplus button press.

for me the shortcut looks like this:

84#"\Program Files\MortScript\MortScript.exe" "\My Documents\Mortscripts\MultiKey.mscr"

I installed and try to map a button to play next song in the touchplayer. But i couldnt do it. Any of you have idea if we can do this with this program?

Probably not, as far as I know the samsung touch player does not assign functions to hard ware buttons as the phone doesn't have any for it. Windows media player on other hand still responds to left and right dpad commands to do previous/next functions and you could assign a button press to press right and that will go to next song, but only if you have media player open.

I 've tried the program some time ago. Everything is perfect, but... When someone call me, the program stops working /returned to the original functions of the buttons/. I tried it at several ROM-s, still the same problem?!

Someone had this problem, and how it is decided?

Sorry for bad English!

Thanks for the tip, Gunnar. This sounds very cool. If I am getting what you said, the cube button will then perform a different function depending on which app is active? It would appear that this could be done with other buttons as well.

Does a separate script determine each function? I am not good with mortscript, but if you have time, I would like more details. Do you have a tutorial?

I have the i920. I don't know if this problem is related to i8000. Did you install to Main Memory? Hit Save and Exit? Soft Reset after?

Perhaps someone could confirm that i8000 also works or fails for them.

just look into the script... writing motscripts is something that more pedagogical people than me have explained quite thoroughly.

its not really complicated at all, just checks for windows name and executable name of the active program and performs the action(s) accordingly, all is in the same script. And yes, this could be done for any button that can be remapped. But lets not hijack this thread.

using newest version of AEButton but when i configure settings, save, and soft reset, the phone seems to just ignore them and continues to use default button assignments....

Even if I click "add a button" it does not register any keys I press. Is it my ROM? I am using newest MS Team ROM 23149.

The buttons that I have remapped are named

Button1, cube button

Button2, the button originally used as OK button next to the camera button.

(at first I remapped win and OK button, and then nothing happened, is this the case for you too?)

I have mapped 1,2,3 keypresses in Button1 and 2 and used 'Button1 hold' and 'Button2 hold' instead of long press inside Button1, since I have found that they gets activated before the long keypress.

Hope it helped, I'm not much of an explainer.

Thanks for commenting Gunnar, are good, I understand.

For some reason, I am configuring the button1 and button2 in AEB, and I click exit and save, restart, but my omnia ignores these configurations! I open AEB again, and all my settings are still there, but it just doesn't work.

I think it may be the ROM I am using? MS Team?

EDIT:

I did a hard reset, and ran AEB, now everything seems to be working! so happy!
