    Facebook Home pre-release leaks

[Edit: The release version of Facebook Home can now be found in this topic.]

A pre-release version of Facebook Home has leaked ahead of the planned 12th April Play Store release date (also the release date for the HTC First 'Facebook phone').

The build itself (pulled from a pre-release HTC First ROM) seems to be rather buggy and incomplete (I can't get 'Chat Heads' working for example), but it's interesting to have a play with to see what Facebook has in store for us later this week.

In order to use the leak, you need an Android device with a maximum resolution of 1280x768 and the ability to completely uninstall your existing Facebook app. This is important, as the leaked APKs are re-signed and can't just be installed over the top of an existing installation. This will automatically exclude some devices which have Facebook installed in the base ROM. If you're on a Nexus device you're good! Even if you do have Facebook in ROM, provided you are rooted there are workarounds - i'll detail these in the comments. If you have any problems installing post below and i'll help if I can.

The leak itself is 3 APKs - the main 'katana' Facebook app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid), the now-integrated-with-your-SMS 'orca' Messenger app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid) (orca) and the 'home' Launcher shell app: DOWNLOAD (ROMraid). Simply install all 3 and you're set - bear in mind you do so at your own risk!

In the settings you can find some interesting options such as whether to hide the notification bar by default or not (if it is hidden, sweeping down from the top of the screen reveals it). Let us know your thoughts! :)

[Edit: It's just been pointed out to me that the original leak was signed with test keys, which could present a security risk. With that in mind i've re-signed the APKs with my own private key for peace of mind and updated the download links.]

Reinstalled it, changed the ro.product.model but it won't let me login, gives me an error "An error occurred. Please try again later". Could this be Facebook's new move in blocking the app?

PS: Tried using both MystUL and Nakata (original) product name, same login error.

I'm getting the same login error - tried on a rooted Xperia T (4.0.4) and a Galaxy Note running 4.1.2 Paranoid Android but both give the same error.

    My working process:

installed the 3 apk's earlier, no build.prop modding and no coverfeed

downloaded build.prop editor, changed ro.product.model to MystUL

    Rebooted phone

never reinstalled the apk's, maybe that's the issue?

I lost signal to my phone shortly after altering my build.prop, changing it back had no effect and after multiple reboots I finally reflashed my rom, which successfully returned signal

    fair warning

I did test logging in with the play store katana, log in, then dropped the dev APK on top of the play store version in the hope it'd keep the login data and it still failed for me - so I guess you might have to just wait :-)

So now the question is how do we get chat heads working? Paul said he had it working yesterday. I don't really care that my stream is black, the only feature I want to try are the chat heads :-)

    • At the beginning of the New Year in 2019, the ioutdoor brand launched the new model ioutdoor polar3. Compared with the last one thinnest and fashionable three-proof flagship ioutdoor X, the design style has changed. The polar3 is rough and tough. In addition to the strong IP68 protection, the polar 3 also added an excellent performance, builted-in QI wireless charging technology.  It means that the user only needs to put them on the charging board when charging, no need to insert the charger cable, which greatly reduces the cable usage. At the same time, users no longer need to insert and remove the mobile phone frequently, which reduces the abrasion between the charging cable and the interface. Wireless charging technology also helps improve security. Users don't need to connect Polar 3 to unknown cables. The cable is the hiding place for all malicious parts, which can prevent malicious hackers, protect privacy and improve security.  On the other hand, the biggest advancement in the development of wireless charging technology is changing our work and lifestyle. When you go out, users no longer need to carry all kinds of plug cables, and do not need to find complicated chargers and sockets. ioutdoor polor 3 has built-in standard QI wireless charging chip, so we can provide it in the office, coffee, hotel, airport, etc. anytime, anywhere provide the wirless charge c   As for the hardware ioutdoor polar 3 is equipped with 5.5 inch HD + 18:9 screen, MT6739VWW processor, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage, dual rear Sony camera 13MP + 2MP, front self-timer 8MP camera, 4000 mAh battery Capacity, with 5V / 2A fast charger and wireless charging, as well as the latest Android 8.1 Oreo as an operating system. In terms of appearance, it also introduces a more unique "the Transformers" concept, so whether it is in the powerful IP68 performance or unique design, or its high cost performance, ioutdoor polor 3 is worth buying model in the 2019! www.ioutdoor.cc
    • Maybe not everyone prefers cityscapes over landscapes but I'm the one who does it. And my top destination is San-Francisco. It's hills, curvy roads, magnificent skyscrapers, famous trams. That's my best travel experience. I used a site with its zip codes to orient myself because the city is big and there is a lot to visit.
    • Just had this through from Texo Customer Servies, seems promising:   'We have now identified the problem and we’re currently attempting to fix the complex issue. I can’t give you an exact timescale just now, but I will be back in touch with a further update sometime next week.

I know this is frustrating and I really appreciate your continued patience.
