Ok, it's not quite what it sounds, but the premise isn't a million miles away.
Rather than have people pitch to fund the development of their apps, we thought we'd give developers launching new apps a platform for promotion. The more indie and innovative the better. Rough around the edges is ok providing they're unique and more importantly interesting.
So, here's how it's going to work. Every Friday at midday, we'll throw up a new AppStarter post and over the next 7 days accept nominations of applications which have been released in the previous 14.
The team will then go off and investigate said apps, maybe contact the developer(s) and price-permitting test them before naming the MoDaCo AppStarter of the week the following Monday.
Users and developers alike are welcome to submit apps, although if you're a developer we expect you to be up-front about the fact.
Any app which wins the coveted 'AppStarter of the Week' will be permanently recorded here, which will over time hopefully develop into an list of gems and curios for anyone who wants to tinker with something that's a little different.
What's in it for you?
That's where it gets interesting. If you're the first person to recommend an app to us and it's the app we select, then we've a few prizes in mind, including subscriptions, to free apps, merch and a few cooler rewards that money just can't buy. Some of it will boil down to what you already have, others will be down to where you are in the world.
Let's just say we'll make it worth your while ;-)
- The applications have to have been released to market in the 2 weeks prior to the date of each post.
- Developers and any related third parties must disclose their connection to the app.
- In the event two users nominate the same winning app, the user who submitted first is considered winner.
- A valid Market URL must be provided unless the app isn't available on Google Play.
