  1. There is no root for windows mobile as such, just bootloader unlocking, its been a while but from what I can remember this will probably need a windoiws pc. Head over to the Xperia x1 forum on xda developers to see what you can do with it, its mostly going to be custom roms and themes though, and trying to do all this from linux may be tricky.

  2. ^^ ouch! just looked at the price of that! i bet it's dead accurate tho..or should be! ;) x

actually, that was the bluetooth version..phew! lol

I did say I'd gone a overboard, its the bluetooth version I've bought . I was thinking of getting one of the cheaper versions without the pressure sensitivity, but I know that a few weeks/months down the line I'd be wishing I gone for the more expensive option; so I figured I'd save £20 or £30 and just buy it now.

  3. Is anybody else with a case that has a sleep magnet (mine's a LuvTab one) having occasional random locking problems when the cover flap is wrapped all the way around the back of the case? Scared the heck out of me the first couple of times it happened.... ;)

No problems with the cheap one I got from Amazon, it seems to lock every time and the magnet is so small/weak it really needs to be on the front of the case to work properly. The only thing I think I would change is the amount of coverage at the edges, as the opening is the same size as the screen it makes it difficult to swipe in from the edge to scroll through tabs in chrome and to pull down the status bar.

  4. I ordered one of these and it was missing the sleep sensor magnet altogether. The only magnets are for holding it closed.

It has been sent back and the supplier is sending out a second generation replacement, which by all accounts sorts out the above and is better fitting. Not got it yet so can't comment on the updated version.

Case just came through, and for the money I'm pretty happy. I must have got the version two case as the magnets seem to work just fine, screen comes on when I open the case. As a stand its not great, the fold is a bit weak to trust to holding the N7 in landscape for video viewing, but as a case for protection and carrying around it does the job and doesn't feel overly cheap. The free stylus works well for draw something too, not put on the screen protector as I'm not a fan of them, and in the case it doesn't really need one.

  5. Noticed something weird on my N7, when I had skype running in the background it had managed to clock up 1.45 GB of data, with only about 80MB used for a short video call to test the quality of the camera. Decided to uninstall it as quality wasn't great and with that ammount of data transferred it couldn't have been doing the battery life much good. Has anyone else with Skype installed noticed this or was mine just acting up?

  6. ***** Didn't see it was UK only xD Put it on BOLD!

Its the same size as all the other terms and conditions, they are all equally important. The fact that it is locked to Orange with £10 credit should have been a bit of a clue though.

  7. Sent an email to Google asking about using external storage through USB and got this reply

"Thank you for your email. While the Nexus 7 will support USB devices such as keyboards and mice, it doesn't support the attachment of mass storage devices. This is primarily a hardware limitation and isn't likely to be supported in the future. The great thing about Android however, is that if a particular device doesn't suit your needs, you have many other great options to choose from."

It is not a hardware limitation, someone over on XDA (RMXO) has been able to mount EXT3/EXT4 formatted USB flash drives, but has had no luck with FAT32 or NTFS.Getting files to work seems to depend on copying to the card via the tablet. Does that sound as if the OTG hardware interface is unable to work with USB? If google added in an option to mount the cards, and added FAT32 support to them it should just work.

  8. I've preordered from currys with 5% discount code ABER5, 5% quidco and free delivery - total saving of about £30 over Google price (if they validate quidco). Not sure if it comes with the £15 play credit and free content, but if it does this would have to be bargin of the year. Already have quite a few Tegra games for my One X, can't wait to see how they look on the bigger screen.

  9. As much as I'm an apple fanboy.. I seem to spend a lot of my time wondering why my mac is beach balling and then realizing its because theres a flash element to the webpage I'm trying to view..

The sooner we can go HTML5 everywhere the better.

I have a Macbook from 2008 and a Dell laptop with much lower spec, guess which one overheats with flash running. If Apple allowed proper hardware acceleration for flash on their older equipment things would be much better, but that wouldn't sell new hardware or help kill off something Steve Jobs had a dislike for.

  10. If it really is a regional problem then change the channel used by your access point to channel 6 whichis legal in all regions. I don't think it will be though as you've tried several different access points, it is unlikely that all three will be using the upper channels which are illegal in some areas. It sounds more like a software or hardware bug affecting the WiFi reception, if there are no reports of major faults from lots of different users I'd guess at a hardware fault on your phone.
