[SOLVED] HTC Desire USB is dead

I have a rooted GSM HTC Desire with ClockworkMod recovery installed. Everything was working fine until I tried to restore a Nandroid backup (but forgot to wipe first). The device bootlooped (due to no wipe) and so I entered recovery and attempted to wipe. Now it says "E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) I can boot into the recovery, but can't mount /sdcard or access the sdcard in any way (Nandroid restore gives the same error) as the same error is given. I can't boot into a working rom, either. I can't charge the device, can't access the SD card, and adb devices says no devices are attached. adb shell in recovery says 'error: device not found' What have I done to my Desire and how can I fix it? Thanks Edit: The SD card itself is fine (works in another phone) and is partitioned with ext and fat as typical for A2SD.

    Unlock from O2

Yeah, that's built into the ROM. Sim lock is completely separate.

Desire bricked? - Only fastboot access - how to recover?

I don't know for certain but I think you need to fix your CID using the instructions here. Steps 1 and 2 are probably not necessary if you are already rooted. Step 3 flashes an update zip which repairs the misc partition, containing the CID (Customer ID?)

Booting your PC into Linux, using only your phone

Nice guide, handy if you're a system admin or tech support!
  5. I'd love to see this working!

[SOLVED] HTC Desire USB is dead

So I tried the steps suggested but when running ./fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 the output is just '< waiting for device >' When I connect the USB cable it says 'FASTBOOT USB' rather than 'FASTBOOT' so the cable is working. On Ubuntu Linux it is necessary to follow the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537508 This involves adding this line to /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0bb4", MODE="0666" and restarting udev: sudo /etc/init.d/udev restart The guide is for 9.04 but works fine for 10.10 (and probably any version after 9) You can then issue the enableqxdm command to fix the SD card, and flash the update.zip. Hope this helps someone else.

[SOLVED] HTC Desire USB is dead

Thanks guys - I wanted to make sure this was the case before doing anything as obviously it's quite a delicate situation! I'll give it a shot tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Thanks again

[SOLVED] HTC Desire USB is dead

It was rooted with unrevoked about 6 months ago and the usb lead definitely works. I wonder if the device is 'USB bricked' but I'm slightly unsure how to proceed. I have flashed various ROMs and done several nandroid backups/restores of the past few months. It seems that the last Nandroid restore has corrupted something. Basically only the recovery works now, so I can't boot up the phone and use a terminal emulator.

Ubuntu Linux 11.04 (natty) on Vega (update 13/4)

Wow, I wish I had a Vega to try this on! Can this be applied to other ARM tablets? Can you dual boot Ubuntu/Android?

Before i brick tell me if this is right

You shouldn't need to goldcard and go through all those steps - you can now use a 1-click root called Unrevoked. See http://unrevoked.com/ and this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044

    Black screen in recovery mode

What version of recovery did you install? The older ones did not support SLCD, the screen used in the newer phones.

[AlphaRev] Public release S-OFF HTC Desire GSM

Very nice, slightly scared to run it though! I guess we'll see this in Unrevoked soon.
  13. Doesn't sound good but I don't know about fastboot so hopefully you can fix it. http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/ has 3 different pb99imgs you might want to try.

    YouTube Ripper

Can't find this one on the market on my Desire. Reading the reviews it probably wouldn't have worked anyway!

    Sync / Google Account Issues

I've been having problems on and off for a while with MoDaCo custom ROM (currently using r8) with Sync. After a while I'll be unable to download any apps, and nothing will sync. Upon launching the Talk app, the app disappears (like a crash, but no force close.) The fix is very simple - go to Settings -> Applications -> Gmail and clear all data. I'm then able to sync (the arrows appear in notification bar) and download from the market again. Something in my GMail or Google Account is causing the issues. Any ideas?
  17. Does your maps 4.5.0 contain squrl/Brut's modifications?

Is Modaco as flaky on Desire as on Pulse?

The only issue I have (and keep having) is the device refusing to sync, and Google Talk crashing instantly upon launch (these two are related) - don't know if it's MoDaCo's fault though

    Twitter(Peep) authentification fails since today

HTC need to implement OAuth - in the meantime you'll have to use another Twitter client. The official one is better than Peep anyway!

    Installing Apps to /system/app

I've installed some apps by pushing to /system/app to free up space on /data and was wondering if it is possible to fix market links? My guess is that they can only be updated in recovery mode with another manual push because the system partition is not writeable, but I wanted to check.

    Very nice ROM update!

Probably costs more to investigate (let alone fix) than it does to just give you a new phone for free, hence the new handset.

    Gtalk won't open

I had this problem too, clearing Market cache + data seemed to fix it.
  25. I found that I couldn't sync anything with this application installed, though I only tried it alongside the official maps application. I was mainly interested in the caching of tiles to SD - why doesn't the official apk do a better job of this?
