  1. THANK YOU - this totally enabled the green/red buttons and allowed me to flash the google apps ROM - now linked to my google account and happily downloading apps. Now the proud owner of a moddable gingerbread flavoured racer! oh the possibilities... :) Thanks.
  2. OK, I cannot apply any updates in recovery/bootloader mode though. I think the only way forward is to install a different version of CWM ROM manager / recovery manager, which can install a new recovery - for which I will need a an APK file (so I can put on dropbox and download on the phone directly, and install with a file manager.) Does anyone have a link to ROM Manager v4.8.0.2 (latest version) that FezzFest mentioned? As I said, needs to be a downloadable APK, not a market link (as it doesn't let me download those).
  3. Phew! someone else noticed the problem! ahh, where can I get this new version? my ROM seems to have come with ROM Manager v3.0.1.2 on it! Do I need to be back on a stock ROM? if so, how to I install that?!
  4. already using recovery manager v0.37b, same problem (claims it's not an official recovery/bootloader). also, FYI, I've spawned another thread in the ROMS forum, as this seems to now be a bootloader issue.
  5. Are there ANY gen2 racers? It's a 3UK one, I assumed it was gen1. See my original post, it's by Sebastian404. It's a custom ROM from rexchun I think, will give you a direct link when I can get to laptop in a couple of hours. EDIT: a couple of hours later, I can't find a copy of the ROM on the laptop - will post again this evening.
  6. I originally posted about apps in the main forum, but since the solution to that is to apply an update ROM (i.e. the google apps ROM) it would seem I need a better subject line to get attention about the new problem! here is what I've said on the other thread, about what I've tried to install ROMs since installing Cyanogen (rexchun's racer port from the blade release): 1) in order to use the bundled ClockworkMOD ROMManager, you must flash the recovery bootloader again - BUT since it's the standard Cyanogen app it doesn't have the ZTE Racer model in the list, and I am not tempted to brick my phone by installing a dud bootloader. 2) you can't manually flash the ROM using the existing bootloader, because the bootloader cannot detect the action of the resistive home button (and thus you cannot persuade it to DO anything...) 3) Cannot install any new ROMs, whether patch updates or whole system restores, because neither ROM Manager nor Recovery(Manager) will play ball with Sebastian 404's recovery from here. Now additionally, I've forgotten which version of ROMmanager I originally installed to get the "recovery"/bootloader in place - was it different to the standard one now on my phone from Cyanogen? if not, why has it stopped recognising the racer in the recovery autoinstall? any help much appreciated as this is blocking me installing google apps and thus installing ANY apps! :s
  7. (before we start, remember my objective here is to apply the google apps ROM linked to by kman12041) hmm. I don't seem to have installed a custom ROM manager via laptop after all; I must have just downloaded it straight on the phone. helpfully, I cleared my downloads folder earlier, having thought "won't need that lot again". nice. What did I do earlier, does anyone know whether there is a custom version of the clockwork mod "RecoveryManager" app for the Racer, and if so where I will have found it? To clarify what I've tried here: Cannot install any new ROMs, whether patch updates or whole system restores, because neither ROM Manager nor Recovery(Manager) will play ball with Sebastian 404's recovery from hereCannot install a new recovery, because Racer is not in the list of supported models,Cannot use the installed and otherwise working recovery to do anything manually because the "home" key doesn't work when booted into recovery mode.so... can't do anything. Is there any automated way to do things by using the "update.zip" filename? do I press the volume up instead of down key? do I need to use debug console over USB?
  8. reporting back, mission failed. because, the following: 1) in order to use the bundled ClockworkMOD ROMManager, you must flash the recovery bootloader again - BUT since it's the standard Cyanogen app it doesn't have the ZTE Racer model in the list, and I am not tempted to brick my phone by installing a dud bootloader. 2) you can't manually flash the ROM using the existing bootloader, because the bootloader cannot detect the action of the resistive home button (and thus you cannot persuade it to DO anything...) Now, I shall next be installing the custom ROM manager that I used in the first place to see if that works (by working in the first place) - but I am skeptical as to the outcome.
  9. Hi all, Firstly, and most importantly, thanks very much to all who contributed to the ROM for the racer. It's quite quite rocking to have gingerbread up and running on this little thing! :) How-so-ever... I cannot install google apps, including the market, nor link to a google account - which means I can only install apps by copying the APK to the SD card (which I can't mount by pluggin the phone into my laptop anymore :( ) or typing in a direct URL by hand on the phone.. I can probably live without the official gmail app, but not being able to install a twitter client is killing me. help in the following would be much appreciated: 1) installing google apps 2) linking to a google account 3) having a "oh, you plugged me in, shall I mount the SD card?" prompt. many thanks.
