I've successfully changed the virtual screen area - no problem, it worked surprisingly well, but when I came to swap in a new font a la

"change the FontPath string to \Windows, reboot phone, delete "old" font from \Storage\windows\FontPath, copy new font to location, edit FontPath string back to \Storage\windows\FontPath and reboot phone again."

There wasnt anything my \fonts folder until I dropped in a windows PC ttf.

I then had my phone refusing to boot past the orange splash and had a few nervy minutes until I could hard reset the phone.

a couple of newb questions please (newb to windows mobile, PC & palm b4 now :) )

a. which arialnarrow font do I use - is it a standard windows PC ttf to drop in that folder..I could easily have used the wrong type of font

b. I changed the FontPath literally to \Windows and rebooted - which resulted in a locked phone.

what did I do wrong?

cheers in advance for any help, and for what is a very effective hack. Iain

Windows PC TTF should be fine, I used my arialn.ttf

Nothing as far as you describe, maybe a typo?

I would assume it's case sensitive, so did you really use \Windows, or \windows?. And likewise with \Storage\windows\Fonts.

cheers. If it worked for you.. I should try it again before i reinstall everything again :) I dont *think* I made a mistake but am running a little scared.

Could you check, please - what fonts does your 550 actually have in the root of \windows and in the \fonts folders?

Also, has anyone tried reducing the size of fonts used as per earlier postings, ie quote

"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\V1\FontAlias]

"Arial:-14"="Nina:-12"

"MS Sans Serif:-13"="Nina:-9"

"

or is that just a dead end?

OK, never checked before, but there are no fonts in \Windows folder on my phone, but that was/is the directory I use to set it back to the default font in order to change to a new font in the \Storage\windows\Fonts folder.

I do know, like you have discovered that if you specify the directory incorrectly it screws the phone.

Just trying the font size thing, and changeing FontPath to \Windows

OK phone booted fine, back to original font. Forgot how big and fat it looks with the TomTom Fix. Anyway font size change didn't seem to do anything for me, now back to Segoe font.

Smart, thanks for checking through this - I followed the instructions and ta da! it now works fine. As you say I must have made a typo. It just had [terminally] adverse affects :)

I didn't change the FontPath to windows in order to release the font, I dropped in the arial font and rebooted - and it works. Now to try Segoe.

cheers lots

As an update - to make changing fonts a touch more foolproof (needed it) I've just made some more \Fonts folders ie \Fonts1, \Font2 etc with one font in each. Then I can just regedit the string and reboot - voila.

cheers again.

That would be where i'd start fiddling! Try changing the -14 to something smaller... See what happens :o (Well, make it bigger, try -8 or something)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Tried -14 to -8, and -9 to -5. It does not make any change

Hi,

I have read the whole thread. Unlocked my phone (http://www.modaco.com/INFO_Decert_SIM_Unlock_C550-t222786.html) and i set the x and y in the register at 150 with Mobile Registry Editor. But when i start TomTom i get the green screen (to one where you must press OK) But when i press oke, nothing happens. Does anybody know what i did wrong?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Connect your phone with PC.

Press the "EXPLORE" button of ActiveSync.

Go to folder My Smartphone\Storage\My Documents.

Copy any image/picture from this folder into TomTom folder there.

It's All Done.

No problem. Haven't even got it working myself.

I'll have to give it a go later on today.

Anybody have the details of unlocking C550 for free?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It uses same way and same free software as C500

Hi All,

I been having a nighmare with this lot.

I'm using the Orange C550 with a Holux GPSlim236

I had issues finding the bluetooth manager screen :-P

For others not used to the WindowsMobile menu...

---Access your blue tooth devices from: Start - Settings - Bluetooth - Bluetooth.

---Then press the "menu" button to view and manage your devices. This isn't obvious. Eventually i got paired with the device.

I found i had to use RegeditSTG to unlock and change display options.

This is a signed reg editor so you have full access. I'll try to attach this.

The screen res does need to be dropped. The phone is still more than usable.

I was worried, but after the change i was pleased to find it's no big deal at all.

With the reg tool, change:

HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 2 (RAPI)

HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 16 (Cert)

(These will unlock the phone)

Then change these keys (a restart may be required after the above).

HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsX=dword:000000b0(176)

HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsY=dword:000000dc(220)

Restart the phone, to lower your screen resolution.

To change screen back:

HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsX=dword:000000b0(131)

HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsY=dword:000000dc(131)

Now problem i have is TomTom loads and prompts for lanuage, i choose english and make my options. But when i choose the voice, the app locks up!?

I have waited ages but no change. I can get back to home but TomTom never gets further and just gets stuck on the Voice Selection screen. Any Ideas?

Is the SPV c550 just RRREEEAAALLLYYY SLLLOOOOOOOW? Wots going on?

I have tried even copy TomTom from many of my friends phones and all do the same.

ALL I WANT IS GPS ON MY PHONE!? Sort it out TomTom.

Has anyone had any success?

Thanks to everyone here for your help so far.

I think we are well on the way to a simple C550 GPS Guide.

Please Help.

I don't take any blame for broken phones e.t.c etc

Ello,

You should have a config file in your TomTom folder.

i can't remeber the name of it. Something like TomTom.cfg

Rename it.

And try again.

Let me know.

I noticed that there was a Tomtom directory in \Storage ( buildin storage ).

Once copied that too, tomtom was running smoothly at resolution 138/138...

Tnx for all the help.

As i am setting my phone to display 140:140 it works like a charm

HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsX=dword:000000b0(140)

HKLM\Drivers\Display\GPE\LogicalPixelsY=dword:000000dc(140)

Tomtom5 works with a good display and letters arn't that big anymore.

Working with t-mobile sda II unlocked

well ive tried a few different things and messed about with the x and y settings as the original post suggested. I originally set them to 176 by 220 as suggested and ur right the fonts are humongous.

So i fiddled with the settings and tried 150 x 150

still managed to use tom tom ok although the menu selection fonts are smaller it has reduced the overall menus down in size....

maybe by fiddling with these settings we may get closer to a usuable menu system which wont require a reset every time so u can use phone

just a suggestion guys and as we always say###

try this at your own risk...but it has given me some sucsess

regards all

Yep 138 x 138 seems the perfect resolution. Menus are correct size and tomtom runs fine as well.

If you want to delete the Arial font:

rename from ttf to txt, reboot smartphone and then you can delete the file with f.i. Resco explorer
