Hi, after using several different programs, - QuickGPS, TrackMe, 3dtracking, GoogleMaps and GPS Test I'm still not having fun with my GPS.

IT NEVER CONNECTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this because I live in central London? It never seems to pic up but last night it did after running all the GPS programs I have I finally got a GPS signal and about 9-12 Satellites in view, it even recognised walking from one side of my flat to the other. I took a couple of GPSphotos and uploaded them to Picasa today. All the photos showed at least 5 miles East of where I live, why was this? I corrected it on PicasaMaps and am now trying to connect at work with no success.

Does anyone know how to get it working well?

do I need to connect gprs or wi-fi to get it going? whats with QuickGPS?

thanks if you can answer any of these questions

QuickGPS will allow you to connect to GPS much quicker.

Run it once and then try again with the GPS.

I'm not sure why you're located 5 miles off on the map, tho...

if you got a signal you,ve probably got it configured right. mine worked 'out the box'. one thing, you say you got a signal in your flat - you'll be lucky to get a signal indoors anywhere. the current rain/clouds probably don't help. mine can take a good couple of minutes to lock on sometimes - even with clear sky stood outside

Just stick you phone on the window ledge (unless you have a tower block next door and open google maps and tick use GPS. The first time will take a few minutes. After that, it should be quicker each time you use it.

If you do live in a very built up area, then just try google maps when you are next out and about - but be aware that it can take a few mins to get a good fix. I have been using mine for a few months and it usually locks on now in about 20 seconds.

is the gps always on? cant find how to activate/deactivate it?

cameraware autodetects the settings no problem and i get a fix straight away, but i need the manual settings to get navizon to work...

Your not the only one. My Tilt's gps when used with the stock ATT rom, radio 1.27.12.11 and Kyphur's 1.1 xda live rom, radio 1.27.14.09 worked as described above. Quick lock and positioning. I have since switched to Dutty's v4 with radio 1.27.12.32 and now it either takes forever or times out. This is with using quickgps, visualgpsce, gpstest, and gpstool in the hopes of augmenting for a warm or hot start. (note: used one at a time not all together). I'm more inclined to believe that its related to the radio and not the rom. Will flash new radios for perhaps a day or two each and report back.

I had the same problem as mentioned above.

This solution helped for me:

The problem was in the registry of QuickGPS.

I changed the region settings of my PPC to Dutch, but QuickGPS doesn't get this settings. So I assume it is downloading the wrong GPS information.

After I changed the following registry setting:

[HKLM] - Software\HTC\QuickGPS\region changed from -- to NL

After using GPS Test I got a fix very vast.

Using:

Kaiser

OS DCS 1.4 WM6.1

R 1.64.06.04

I've had a number of occasions now where firing up TomTom has found it to be totally lost! Recently when I was visiting family in London I used myV1605 to navigate to my destination with no problem, the next day I tried to use it, it tried to plot a route starting from the south coast of Spain! Today I used TomTom to get to a client location with no problems, 90 minutes later when I tried to navigate out of the area it had me 50 miles away and moving at 269mph across green fields! I update Quick GPS as often as it wants to (via activesync) and have tried to solve the problem by downloading it again over 3G but it makes no difference, nor does a soft reset. I'm starting to think there may be a problem with the phone as it has happened too often. My car sat nav works fine so its not a satallite problem and normally picking up a good signal is not a problem either. Anybody got any ideas?

My V1615 thinks it is in the middle of the Mediterenean again today. worked fine for a few minutes then went mad! A soft reset doesn't fix it either. I think its broke. I'll try a bluetooth GPS tomorrow, if thats OK Vodafone can get me a replacement.

I've had same problem, with EXIF data in th GPS photos showing a location 5 miles East of the correct one when I upload to PhotoShop Elements. It works fine with Google Maps and Live Search, so I guess there must be a bug of some sort in writing the GPS location to EXIF. Anyone found a solution to this?
