08/Mar - Superboot ERD79 -> GRI40 - rooting the Nexus One

Major bug here...

Last night my battery died, after an intensive day of installing apps on ERE27 superboot himem. I hadn't many problems all day, but once my battery died and turned the phone off, I turned it back on and put it in the dock for about an hour. When I pulled it off the dock, though, my phone auto-shutdown. I thought this was weird, so I turned the phone back on, went into Status, and it showed the battery at 0% and shut itself back off. I turned it on again, and it turned off before I could even get it in the dock. So I unplugged the power cable from the dock, plugged it into the phone, and turned it back on. Status showed battery status as Charging (AC) and at 0%. I went to sleep.

8 hours later when I woke up and looked at my phone the battery level was still 0%, and unplugging it from AC caused it to auto-shutdown. I felt a little sick to my stomach. My brand new Nexus One is possibly hosed?

I reflashed amonra's recovery and restored that Nandroid backup I so thankfully made before flashing Cyanogenmod on friday. As soon as I got back up on stock ERE27, the battery started charging. Within minutes it was 3%, then 30 minutes later, 15%. All is back to normal now.

I've noticed this problem isn't exclusive to superboot, and two people running cyanogenmod seem to have experienced it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624317

I don't know if the problem is exclusive to himem kernels, but... something seriously wrong is afoot here. Not only this happened to me, but running superboot himem also resulted in my phone randomly dying, once while I wasn't even using the phone. Not a 'shutdown' but the phone just blanked out. One time I couldn't get it to turn back on via the power button and had to pull the battery in order to get it to start back up. As it stands I don't think I'll custom flash my phone ever again and wish I knew what this weekend long experience would have resulted in because I would have never unlocked my bootloader. While I didn't really like running cyanogenmod on my G1 due to a weird feeling of instability, running cyanogenmod or superboot himem on my N1 resulted in major problems... the last of which basically killed my phone.

Am I the only person who can't download any of the files? When I click on the file I need (ERE27) it just sends me to the Modaco homepage... :-/

I am having issues with my Nexus One have unlocking it. I just can't get it to root properly.....using the Superboot.img in this thread or running "fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.6.0.img" from the command prompt. All I get when I boot into recovery is a black screen with android and warning icon. I'd have to pull out the battery and restart to boot up again.

Can someone help here? Anyone...Paul?

<img src="http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/849/dsc03224b.jpg" height=300 width=300</img>

I'm having this exact same issue.

It's unlocked fine.

I flash the recovery image to it (tried both ERE27 and ERE27 with himem)

reboot into superboot, choose recovery.

Then the black screen with the android warning icon.

even tried it doing "adb reboot recovery" and get the same

From About phone:

Firmware version: 2.1-update1

Baseband version: 2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2

android build@apa26 #1

Build number ERE27

I've let it sit for 15 mins and nothing happens. Watch a "how to root your nexus" video on you tube and as far as I can tell, the point where the recovery image should load to its menu is when I get the android warningg sign, which i can only assume is some sort of generic error screen.

EDIT: Never mind, I'm an idiot. I hadn't actually flashed the recovery image, i only did the superboot flash. Flashed the RA img to it and it went first time.

Am I correct that flashing Superboot I replace the kernel? I need to keep stock kernel and drivers, because I'm developping VoIP app fro Android and need to test it on stock kernels to be sure it will work for mosts users.

If I'm correct, is there a way to get 'su' working without changing the kernel?

Can someone please help me get superboot up and running on my mac? I get to the point where its in Fastboot mode, but I can't get past the part where I'm supposed to enter the command to install it. (this is all new to me, so the whole typing in the commands into terminal is confusing)

How do you flashing the RA image? I went through superboot, but now I can't figure out how to flash the RA image.

I'd like to know this too. I went back to the stock ROM because I'm having a strange issue with my data connection. (No, not the constant switching between 2g and 3g) and heard someone stopped having problems when using the stock kernel. I've had this issue using all kernels and wanted to keep my kernel stock if possible. The stock kernel, however, seems to offer horrible battery life as is and I wanted to be able to underclock until I am ready to switch back. I need Superuser privileges without changing the stock kernel if possible.

This is a serious concern for me too. The EPE54B checksums are incorrect. Can someone please verify that these are, in fact, working images? Has anyone used them?

I get:

MD5 (1.0-EPE54B-nexusone-superboot-himem.zip) = f2ff5a15d5b3e61dc964dd421e23bf8f

MD5 (1.0-EPE54B-nexusone-superboot.zip) = ac71d96920c8ac197e07c7bedc282179

cheers,

Kris

Thanks. I was just being paranoid about my new phone. In the end, it took about one second and works perfectly. Happily hypnotizing my cat with N1 Torch now... ;-)

cheers,

Kris

Added EPF21B!

P

When I run the EPF21B superboot + himem I'm getting an error message when writing boot. Sending is OKAY, but writing says FAILED (remote: image update error) - but the stand alone superboot works fine!

please help!

I'm interested in using the packages here, but when ever I download any of the EPE54B zips, the md5sums don't match.

I've tried it several times and tried the other packages. Some thing is wrong. I'm doing this from linux. I've tried both wget and right-clicking to save as.

I have a problem. When I tried to extract the superboot for ERE27 with 7-zip, it said "cannot open file "(file name)" as achieve. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Having a lot of problems downloading any of the superboot images. Either I get a 404 error, no such file, or I get a file that doesn't match the md5sum. I've tried this on a couple of machines and get the same results. I can download other stuff through xda and get the correct md5sums.

Y'know, jailbreaking an iPhone is easier than rooting my Nexus One - at least, it's easier tonight.

Can't download the EPE54B Superboot file - tried multiple times in different browsers and operating systems. 75% of the time, clicking on the link returns a 404 error. The other 25% of the time a file begins to download, but doesn't finish. I usually end up with a 120 to 230k file.

Tried:

Safari (OS X)

Firefox (OS X, Windows, Linux)

Opera (OS X, Windows)

Chrome (OS X, Windows)

Lynx (Linux, OS X)

Wget (Linux, OS X)

Curl (Linux, OS X)

Tried right-clicking and saving the link as well - no luck.

Does anyone have a *working* link for the EPE54B Superboot file? It's obvious from both my multiple download attempts & the other posts above that the links provided at the top of this forum thread are no longer functional.
