Hi Paul,

I'm also with Orange and since installing the new radio my phone has now applied a simlock for the orange sim card stating 'network locked'

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for the great work

Aaron

I have the same. Has anyone tried flashing the original ROM back over the top? Does that include Radio?

Paul

as apps2sd still saves cache to the internal memory does that mean when we run out of internal memory we cant install anymore apps even tho there is free space on the SD card?

i dont understand what to do for this step

Your device should now be off. Unplug the device from your computer. Turn it on again while holding down the 'volume down' button this time. The screen will look similar to before, but will say 'HBOOT' instead of 'FASTBOOT'. Use the volume buttons and the power button to select the 'RECOVERY' option. You should then see a screen with a red triangle - at this point, plug it into your Linux or OSX computer.

can i use a windows 7 to do it?

if not how can i get round this?

For all you guys with the simlock issue.....

using the "goldcard method" flash the below RRU, you will have to re-root but it should solve the issue

http://androidfiledepot.com/Storage/...ase_121865.exe

That link doesn't work.... it got truncated!

Damn, I don't want to have to go through all that again. Is it worth we wait till the morning for the original radio?

Just to let you know that i managed to get through the root-process and updating it with apps2sd as well. The first thing i did was installing an app that needs root...and yes id does work...

Apps2sd is working fine. Just make sure you are on a ext3 partition.

Now the only thing that i wish is a recovery-image so I can uninstall Ubuntu from my desktop....

Thanks to Paul and all others that gave some very good tips for a linux-noob as I am.

fixed the link and i can now confirm it works... phew, issue solved, rooting should be a bit easier this time :P

These things are sent to try us..

EDIT: Pauls Test RUU may do the job as it includes a radio image...

@paulobrien please update/put a flag on the radio in the 1st post.. dude... you are awsome

You don't. The bit in Paul's original post about needing access to both a windows machine AND a linux machine wasn't a joke. He meant it. Download an Ubuntu Live CD 32 bit and use that.

Get it here - http://www.ubuntulinux.org/getubuntu/download

Burn the iso onto a cd or dvd. Reboot your PC. Linux will now be running in memory, you won't be installing it to disk. You now have a temporary Linux install

Using a live USB Flash disrto works too, download ubuntu and google Universal USB installer, does the job for you

The instructions are so clear, I can't believe so many people are having trouble entering couple simple command into terminal. I'm sorry for my sarcasm, but if you're struggling so bad, maybe you should not do it at all? I mean for your own safety - you don't want to brick your 400 quid device, do you?

On the brighter side of things, every single root app that I've tried so far works! That includes drocap2, wireless tethering, autostarts, etc. The only exception is adfree android, which gives an error that it can't replace hosts file and if I try it several times, it crashes the phone all together. But that's the problem of the app.

APPS2SD works fine too, though I'm a bit confused why the internal memory keeps going down.

Oh, and someone asked if they can just remove any files they want from rootedupdate.zip - the answer is NO. The files needs to be properly signed if you do and that's a totally different topic.

Well I now have a rooted Desire with APPS2SD and radio update.

It wasn't without problems though. I had terrible problems with the linux bit. The problem was that I, and a great many others, have never used linux. I got stuck by what might seem obvious to linux users like file names are case sensitive as an example. Changing directories seems different then "msdos" and I still am not sure who "sudo" is.

It you haven't used linux before I would wait until somone puts out a simple guide that us windows users can understand. DON'T RISK BRICKING THE DEVICE.

I managed it eventually but am not entirely sure how! If I knew how I did it - I would write the guide!

Still it was worth the effort and I now have an ADD FREE MoDaCo as a thank you.

Don't worry....

I actually have quite a lot of experience with Linux and still it took me hours to get this working... had to test six different Linux distros, every one of them showed another error.

It's not Paul's fault or whoever made these rooting tools' fault, that's just how Linux "works".
