Gah, I might have to get one! On the basis I very rarely make calls and the Streak can if needed, it seems a good device for me...

P

So does anyone know if the £429 Dell Streak on sale at CPW is sim free by which I mean will work with my Orange sim?

Just spoken to CPW and they tell me the stand alone price is still locked to O2.

Which is a bummer seeing i'm on Orange.

Have to wait to see if Dell start selling it themselves now.

Yeah I see it's going on sale in the states unlocked.

I hope that Dell sell it unlocked. Will have to sit on my hands till then I guess!

I'm picking mine up from O2 on PAYG tomorrow, hopefully they'll give me an unlock code...

P

Well if they do let us know fella. I wanted this to replace my Nexus 1 but have 14 months left on my Orange contract. I don't want to have a 2nd contract so if this is unlocked I'll snap one up tomorrow.

BTW if this is £399 on O2 pay as you go why is CPW selling one at £429 unlocked?

I see the Dell UK website is now listing the device as 'exclusive to o2' so not holding out any unlocked version being sold in the UK.....

I suppose I could import one from the states but that is going to add to the costs.....

Also, why would they give you the unlock code? :(

They won't provide you the unlock code;

It's exclusive to O2 and they have the same stance as with the Palm Pre; exclusive to O2 and they won't provide an unlock code.

How do I know? I'm an O2 Guru (Technical Product Specialist).

On another note, just bought mine today for £399 minus my staff discount.

Just turned it on and its got the wow factor already!!

Have got phone on Friday from CPW for £429, it is locked into o2, it's exclusive to o2 and cannot get an unlock code from them for it.

I expect o2 have a 30 day head start on dell as part of the conditions, so whether anything changes when dell release on their site I don't know.

Can we expect someone like Paul or the guys from XDA to have got it unlocked by then though?

Dunno how it works with new devices, how long does it take people to unlock em?

What ever happens I am getting a new phone in 7 days time, can't live with the N1's shite battery life

I had a chat with O2 support staff and he said if I want to unlock the Streak I have to buy and use it for 12 months before they can give the unlock code. F*** O2 policy. Dont know if this will change when Dell release its unlocked version in US.

Our only hope now may be rebel sim II, which worked with Palm Pre

Engadget's review is now online. Seems like they were quite impressed, especially with the battery. Not quite flawless though. A few bugs and bits to iron out.

Just got to see what Apple do tomorrow now, then make the choice.
