Guest madu Posted May 13, 2003 Report Posted May 13, 2003 Finally after a long research I have a solution!! Just copy file to your start menu and run. Done. No need to restart or anything. It is a shame that some ppl [most likely] knew the answer all this time and again made us do it the hard way.. Well, it just proves that those people lost again in their conspiracy.. God bless 'em! Note: In order to unzip files you need to have SmartExplorer from Jacoch (Binarys) madu PS: Regards to Gradiation for important piece of advice!izip.CAB
Guest fozzie Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 hmmm, 48 views & no suggestions :( This is something that would be useful for me too. There must be a solution there somewhere - midnight? :)
Guest madu Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 YEP, there are usually 2 options to get files on your SPV if you have no cradle handy: - Email it to yourself - Upload to website and d/load with PIE - And usually most soft (freebies at least) is zipped anyway.. Damn!
Guest Chic0 Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Not sure if this is the answer you are expecting, but I have emailed zip files to my phone and they work fine. As long as SMart Explorer is installed, all you have to do is click on the zip attachment in the email, then smart explorer automatically opens up asking where you want to unzip to.
Guest fozzie Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 Not sure if this is the answer you are expecting..... hehe, no :) We're talking about the ability to click on a link to a zip file on a web page and being able to download it. This currently only works for a cab file. We're wondering if there is a way, perhaps by editing the registry, to get PIE to handle file types other than cab.
Guest madu Posted May 15, 2003 Report Posted May 15, 2003 EXACTLY! :) PS: Now, CAB files are not always handled correctly either. They sometimes doenload as a webpage with gibberish :( Apparently it is a server issue, not the SPV
Guest amo Posted May 17, 2003 Report Posted May 17, 2003 This is something ive wanted for ages now too! Midnight, you got any ideas mate??
Guest Chic0 Posted May 18, 2003 Report Posted May 18, 2003 doh! hehe, no :) We're talking about the ability to click on a link to a zip file on a web page and being able to download it. This currently only works for a cab file. We're wondering if there is a way, perhaps by editing the registry, to get PIE to handle file types other than cab.
Guest Brody Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Haven't tried it yet but gooooood work!! :) :( :D
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Nice one Madu :) I've not tried it yet, but I just looked at the xml, and noticed the app name is "Madu izip" :( Cool
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Incidentally, CABS can now be uploaded to the forum. P
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 "]Incidentally, CABS can now be uploaded to the forum. P Just realised that myself - cool!! Keep it that way Paul.
Guest Gorskar Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Can they be downloaded from mobile modaco though?
Guest nedge2k Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Nice one. No access to cradle at moment and file won't download directly to phone from main or mobile site (how ironic) so ill have to wait with baited breath til tomoro. You are a star my friend. SPV owners rejoice! Maybe one day there'll be a .cab to allow any type of spv viewable file to be downloaded, wink wink, nudge nudge ;-)
Guest fozzie Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Just tried downloading from mobile modaco but get 'file cannot be viewed' error?! Not tried from the web yet.......
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Maybe one day there'll be a .cab to allow any type of spv viewable file to be downloaded, wink wink, nudge nudge ;-) Unfortunately that is impossible on small scale of tweaking, that is each file type that we want to be downloadable needs to be registered with PocketIE, so unless they do not change how IE handles files we can only implement this tweak per file. If you come up with more filetypes that you want IE to handle I will look into that. Untill then enjoy leeching zip's. madu PS: Quite often due to server configuration the files just open up as a webpage (even with CABs and other formats) :) I wish there was a 'save as..' feature in IE
Guest StoutMan Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 when I try to download a zip file it still comes up with the error that it cannot be viewed on this device. any ideas :?
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Do you have latest version of SmartExplorer installed?
Guest fozzie Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Same for me Madu. (Smart Explorer 1.0b4 installed)
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Strange.. So you can just click on a zip in SE and it will work right? Tested it on mine only though.. Does it work for anyone? 8)
Guest fozzie Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Yeah, zips work fine with SE. Have u got a URL that works for you, and I can test it?
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Try this ASX Coder - Split your long media files into tracks via laylist
Guest fozzie Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 That works fine, having that link as a favourite. It also works, taking the filename off the URL and then clicking on the filename in the dir listing on that page. Now need a 'proper' html page with a link on it to try. It's not working on Mobile MoDaCo.
