You need winrar to extract the files from the archive. Then you transfer the two files Picodrive.exe and FileDialogSP.dll to your phone, put them in the same directory to make it run.

To be honest, anybody who doesn't know anything about extracting archive files or transfering files to their phone really shouldn't be messing around with this kind of stuff. If you get it wrong it could mess up your phone and in the worst case make your phone defunct. So you need to be careful of what you're doing...and if you don't know, do plenty of research on the net beforehand. Just google it...answers are there.

Sorry for the rant.

Whilst it is great to hear that someone has made a working version of ScummVM for our SPV C550's at last. I feel a bit sorry for Parallax20 I hope you didnt put in too much time on the project Parallax, Im sure your work would have been just as good - now im off to d/load and try it out - big whoop cant wait.

You need to download 0.8.1 version of pocketScumm by knakos. There is documentation about how to use scumm on the website, most of it can be applied to the pocket version...

http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=...er=asc&start=75

I've only tried it with Beneath A Steel Sky and it seems to work pretty well.

How do you get out of the game and save it on gnuboy?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You need to hit the "options" key as defined by you through "Config Keys" menu option, or it'll be the default which should be "right soft button". This will pause the game and return you to the main menu, where you can then select to save/restore your games. All my ports have this option available apart from Mame.

kevinsephiroth - sorry I don't have an answer to this...the gnuboy core was written years ago and hasn't been updated since. This may have been before the Pokemon craze came about, so wasn't updated to support it. There is a slight quirk with PocketGnuboy...some games refuse to load depending on if the sound is on/off. Try playing with "Sound enabled" setting...you may have to live with the sound permenantly on/off for some games.

MameCE3 (M.A.M.E) MameCE3_QVGA_25_01_06.rar

- This is a fairly cut down version of the full Mame32.  It supports 200+ games but can be enabled for more depending on hardware emulated.

- To "OK" the legal notice screen use LEFT->RIGHT directional keys

- Added key configuration screen

- Fix default mame key quirks

- Game screen now shrinks to display size.  Some games may be difficult to view on low-res phones.

- Menu option to turn auto scaling on/off

- Improved screen scaling but still a bit slow.

- Use * and # to adjust frameskip rate.

- Added option to refresh game list

- Sound enabled - but nothing to get too excited about.

I would appreciate some feedback on your experiences with these emus, whether good or bad.

hello parallax20

congratulations for your fantastic job...

pocket gnu boy works wonderful

the pico drive too :)

mario kart is unfortunately too slow for my spv c600 :)

i've tried to play at the mame emulator, but i didnt manage to load any downloaded rom...

EDIT : i finally found where to locate my roms : create a directory roms on the same folder as this of mamece3.exe

and put the zips on it

BUT still doesn't work : when I load the rom, i come back automatically on the start page, without crash

but without game...

if you could help me for that, it would be wonderful :D

thank you again mister parallax for your great work !!!

MameCE is quite fussy and will only run ROMS 0.36 versions only. Most ROMS out there have been updated, but there are a few thta will still run. A member posted instructions on how to convert newer roms to the 0.36 format. You could give that a try.

When you select the ROM from the game list, make sure you select the correct version...i.e. US/world/Jap....even though a rom may register as all 3 variants of the same game only one will run.

Poolkv - Have you actually clicked on "Open" with the left menu key to open the file? When you select using your middle cursor key that will only select the currently highlighted file. To run the rom you need to open it as well.

Thx Parallax,

I know what the problem is now.

It seems that only pokemon won't work on your emu.

I think you already noticed that.

But thx for the help. Your emulator runs smooth with sound! :)

edit: dl again poké blue red green and yellow: worked perfectly!!!!!!!!

seems it was bad dumps roms.

now with omapclock i overclocked the processor to 288MGHZ ...

pocketsnes now works perfect speed!

maybe with sound in a future release?

or maybe try a port of visualboyadvance? with no sound?

is it possible with a TI OMAP at 288MGHZ ?

Now that you can overclock the cpu it should be able to handle sound in all emus? Highest overclock i seen is 252mhz. That seems like a pretty decent gain to increase emu speed.

You're right.

The pokemon i tried is bad dump.

But because it worked with the normal gnuboy i thought that it would work on parallax version of gnuboy too.

Thx for the information !

Me too. Mine ones even worked with VBA 1.72 on the PC so I thought of good roms. Weird.

Great to play Red/Blue + Yellow and Green (hacked+translated into english) cause Crystal started to bother me. I like no Pokémon as much as the first ones.... (even the remakes on GBA)

I noticed that at 240 and more MGHZ my C600 with PocketGNUBoy (of Parallax not of Spacemonkey I mean) could play great music with no "grrrbrrzzz" effect (in Last Yu-Gi-Oh games: Duel Monsters 4 or Dark Duel Stories 2).....

hello everybody...

i finally managed to convert the rom files I had in the 0.36 version...

it was very easy and simple :

download on mame.net the mame036b archive

download romcenter

launch romcenter

create a dat file with the mame.exe

give the directory of your roms

fix your roms and delete the unworking and unfixable roms

you won :)

BUT

I'm still having troubles using your software, parallax :D

When I load the rom, now it displays a warning message saying that it is forbidden to have a rom etc... and clic ok to continue...

I didn't find any key of my spv c600 able to "clic ok"...

except the key "*/T9" doing an escape and bringing me back on the menu page of mame ce3

And it's always the same, even after doing the key configuration...

It works :D

I didnt do "left then right" to ok the legal notice :)

sorry

congratulations !!!

Hi everybody,

I've been hunting on the net for good console emulators for the smartphone and came across PicoDrive and PocketSNES. Unfortunately neither of these emulators worked properly on my C550.  So I decided to try and fix it so I could play my favourite games on my phone.

The biggest change is probably getting it to work at QVGA resolution, which was a definite improvement to the postage stamp size window.  After much tinkering, I think I've reached a milestone and am happy to share it with the rest of the community.

Disclaimer: These programs have been tested on my C550.  I hold no responsibility for any damage caused by running them on your own devices.

Credits:

Full credit should go to the following people for original conversion to smartphone.  Please provide donations to the relevant developers for their efforts, so that more projects like these remain open source and free to everyone.

PicoDrive (original source) by Dave @ finalburn.com

PocketSNES (original source) by SpaceMonkey

There have been changes to the HTC hardware to disallow volume/record/camera keys to be used as game buttons, please stick to the keypad when redefining your own to avoid problems.

I would appreciate some feedback on your experiences with these emus, whether good or bad.

Please send enhancement requests to the original developers as I have no plans for doing any more updates to these programs.

Enjoy!

Kien Phan  (Parallax).

Hi Parallax - great work on sorting this out, it was driving me crazy since I got my SPV C550.

The problem I have is that when I try to run either picodrive or pocketnester I get this error message:

"Unable to open the file. The system returned the error 'access denied'!"

I have tried disabling security certificates on the handset just in case but nothing i do makes any difference. I did have the previous (non-qvga) version of picodrive (build 07.05.04) which will run, but obviously the qvga screen distorts the display.

I also have 'smartnes' and this also works with no problems. I was wondering if

A) you have encountered this problem before, and

:) you have any idea how to get around it.

As far as I can tell you have tested them yourself successfully on an SPV C550 so I have NO idea why they won't work on my C550.

ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated as I am tearing my hair out as i Write this!

Thanks buddy, all the best.

SORTED!!!!!

Sussed it, complete user error on my part.

Nice work once again Parallax - you da man.

has anybody got pocketsnes to work on samsungs i300? it'll run on mine but the

displays reversed, ie. left is right and right is left in portrait, and landscape modes

won't display! The other emulators won't run at all, except PocketGnuboy.

The snes emulator works really fast on the C600 using the non QVGA version.

It would work extreamly fast if I overclocked the c600 to 240Mhz-260Mhz, (view benchmark results after overclocking gaining 10-50% increase in applications).

So how about sound options back for the pocket snes 8)

Saving and loading - ARGH!!!

I loaded the ROM

Accidently clicked save game instead of load game.

lost my save!!

Could you add an extra warning when saving? Or a warning when saving in the first 3 minutes of load?

correct!

use the non QVGA on the c600 for really good speed, it plays full screen on the c600 (not a tiny window)! 8)

Get it from page 1 of this discussion, both versions are included in the RAR file (QVGA and non).

I'm playing secret of mana at just about perfect rate, using frameskip 1. :D
