Create an Application but have no clue

I've been searching and searching and can't find what I want so I've decided to take on the task to create it from scratch. I've got a Pocket PC running WM5. I would like to create an application that would allow for me to enter a list of products with specific information that would be linked to each product and thus having the capability to search the specific information and have results of which products contain what was searched. - make sense? Sounds like a database right, will the kicker is I would like to be able to tie in my contacts and link a specific product to a specific contact.

I have a lot of patience so I really just need to be pointed in the right direction of which software to get and play with.

What is suggested?

Thanks much and please ask any questions you might have to clarify.

Cheers.

You need Visual Studio 2005 Standard or above, and the free SDK downloads from Microsoft.
