SGH-i617 BJII Blackjack 2 LCD replacement procedure

In a moment of shear frustration, I made a bad decision and my BJII took a shot to the face. The Lens and LCD were both broken.

I couldn't find any documentation about how to replace the screen, so I decided to create it myself. Attached you will find a PDF document covering the procedure to replace the LCD in the Blackjack 2.

Time required: less than 1 hour

Items required: Very small Philips and Standard screw drivers.

Replacement parts. Tweezers. Pin/Needle.

I found both pieces (LCD and Lens) on Ebay, and paid less than $70 for both (about half of 2 years of insurance). There were several suppliers for the Lens but only one for the LCD (http://stores.ebay.com/PerfectESell).

If you have any difficulties, or notice any inaccuracies, feel free to PM/contact me.

You should be more careful with that thing. I know how much you rely on it

So, people keep on contacting me about how to find the LCD on ebay. Just do a global ebay search for "blackjack LCD". By doing just that, I found the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-SGH-i617-Black...id=p3286.c0.m14

Its gonna run you about $70, and the guy has 25 of them.

Here's the link to his store.

Good luck

Thanks for an awesome guide.. I had ordered the screen from Ebay, had it sitting around for two weeks.. Until finally mustering up, registering, then reading your guide.. Which tells me I don't even need the Torx! Cheers!

I rated this with 5 stars. * * * * * Thanks for taking the time to write these instructions.

I had 2 Blackjack II phones, one with a good LCD and bad circuit board, one with broken LCD and good circuit board. I followed the instructions, down to taking out the LCD - instead, I put the good circuit board into the grid / frame with the good LCD.

It worked great.

Like anything else, there is a learning curve and it takes time and patience to figure it out, but I could do another one in 20 minutes.

If your LCD is broken, you may want to purchase a non-working Blackjack ii with a good LCD and switch them out like I did. Ebay would be a good source.

I replaced my blackjack II screen today with one from an older unit I had, still a blackjack II though. the new screen is very washed out, not to the point of being unreadable, just very, very light. turning down the brightness helps a little but it really needs a contrast adjustment.

has anyone heard of this or know a fix

Thanks,

Brian
