I use Launcher Pro, but my friend uses GOlauncher and we're both on SS RLS5. GOlauncher IS faster on his phone when compared to mine, but I don't want to change since Launcher Pro is a paid app. :P

Apps:

Titanium Backup Pro (the free version is slow and hangs)

Opera Mini (saves on data use and is the quickest)

Astro/Root Manager (both do pretty much the same thing, tho i prefer astro as a UI but use root manager when i need root writes on the /system partition etc)

Android Terminal Emulator (how can you live without a terminal???)

Launcher Pro (on cm7 i find this by far the fastest)

Games:

NFS Shift

N.O.V.A. (not on market)

Real Football (not on market)

Assasin's Creed (not on market)

Eternal Legacy (not on market)

I have so many apps and games (about 250) its impossible to name them here. I wanted to keep to your '5 app rule' and as the blade is upstairs (so i cant choose from my app drawer) i just wrote the first 5 apps that came to mind when i thought of the blade and the games i am currently playing. The blade is an awesome gaming device (well not stock, but with modifications). so defo check out some intensive apps.

how do you fit them all. There is always a small portion of apps that stay on memory, and my memory for my phone is 208mb or something...

how do you fit them all. There is always a small portion of apps that stay on memory, and my memory for my phone is 208mb or something...

two ways, to increase space for apps,

1) change your partition sizes. system patition needs only 128mb for most roms. stock it is 207mb. So 80ish mb is wasted. cache is also 41mb when stock, whereas most newer roms need only 2mb. so another 40ish is wasted.

repartitoning your internal memory can therefore increase space on the data partition (where apps go). mine is about 314mb atm.

2) the other way is too make use of external storage (this is the easier way). by putting your apps on the sdcard you can have up to 32GB of apps :D. to do this, you can either use the crappy froyo 'move to sd' feature in settings > applications. or you can partition your sdcard and effectivley create an 'app partiton' then store and use all (or some) of your apps from there using Link2sd or Darktremor (or simular). I recomend doing it this way. (i personally use a Link2sd as i like being able to move only specfic apps to sd and choose which bits (or all) of the app to be on the sdcard eg libs, apk, etc.

i recommend you use the 'search' feature (or google) to learn how to partition your sdcard.....

there is a third way - load your apps into the system partition and reflash

What's the best (and free) "sat nav" app for the blade?

I use Navit. It is open source and uses OFFLINE maps from OSM.

However, I would not install the version from the market, because it is outdated.

Here's the project site: http://www.navit-project.org

Here's the Wiki: http://wiki.navit-project.org

Here you can read about Navit on Android:

http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Navit_on_Android

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Navit/Android

Here you get the latest version: http://download.navit-project.org/navit/android/svn/

Here you extract your map: http://maps.navit-project.org/download/

With OSM as data source you can update your maps as often as you want and you can have all countries you want - for free.

The only limit is the 4GB file limit of FAT32 on your SD card. :D

Guardian Anywhere (sshhh!)

Wifi Analyser

File Expert (currently has a crash bug when navigating back on SMB shares though!)

Endomondo

**something else here**

thanks to this thread for:

GO Launcher EX <- this app's been out since Jan? why the £$%* was everyone talking about LP when this is obviously far better?!

LgCamera <-shame about the annoying popup on free version, otherwise EXACTLY what i needed on holiday - kept missing shots due to slowness of default camera

svSIGmini <- like OS Atlas Free but with map saving? sweet. but those aren't OS maps are they? hmm

2. rockbox (Best sounding music player)

3. Wolfram Alpha (Tells you stuff in a useful / technical way).

4. gvSIGmini (Probably less useful for people outside the UK

but it uses ordinance survey map data which is alot better than most apps use)

5.Mobialia Chess (Works to play on FICS online and with timeseal working).

ADW Launcher, very smooth and simple

HTC_IME mod keyboard, I actually bought swiftkey recently and tried to get used to it (after being impressed on the trial) but I went back to HTC_IME

Trillian, which is now free for android. Works great for MSN/Yahoo which I use it for, better than ebuddy in my opinion.

Subsonic, so I can play my music stored on my laptop on my phone over wifi or the mobile network

lgcamera, much better quality / configurable camera than the stock android camera/camcorder

GO SMS, handles absolutely huge SMS threads much better than the stock messaging app

PingChat, I use this to talk to a few friends who have iphones or blackberries :D

Hi,

You need to select model during registration so it may be your .apk was not for a Blade, it works fine on mine.

All the best

EDIT: Is it hard to install? It looks a bit tricky.........

The installation is very easy:

Just download the latest APK, currently navit-svn-4504.apk, and install it.

Extract a map with the map extractor, rename it to navitmap.bin and put it in /sdcard/navit.

Now you can start to navigate. :D

But there are some things which have to be addressed to be a perfect Android app:

- When installing a new version, you loose your bookmarks.

EDIT: I just installed a new version and the system now doesn't do an uninstallation before installing the new version. So, user data is kept. :D

- When you exit Navit, your settings aren't saved (that's why you should do the editing of navit.xml)

I personally can live with these 2 things because navigation works very well and very fast and I like OpenStreetMap.

As you can see on http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Android, there are a lot of apps which use OSM data and there's a lot of development going on.

You just have to see if a certain app can use offline maps. For me that's very important because I want to be independent of any data connections when using navigation.

Thanks for the recommendation for Swype. I just registered for the beta program and installed the Spanish-English version. I'm using it to type this and find that it works frighteningly well.

Does anyone know of a good talktime/3g usage apps? Cheers : )
