The Lenovo K800 has a 1.6Ghz Medfield CPU, formally known as the Atom Z2460, with 512MB Memory and runs Android 4.0. While the specs are nothing we haven't seen from other manufacturers it is the Intel CPU that stands out here. ARM have traditionally had the monopoly on smartphone processors with both Qualcomm and NVidia using the ARM designs in their chips. Intel will be hoping additional manufacturers start building handsets using the new chip, although historically Intel have priced their processors at a higher level than their competitors. Following the joint Intel/Lenovo press conference, Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha joined the Intel press conference and announced that Motorola also have an agreement to use the Medfield chips in both tablets and smartphones. The competition for the chip market can only be a good thing in the long term for end users as it may well push handset prices down. If the PC market is anything to go by the processor speeds should also start increasing rapidly as Intel and Arm try to compete to stay at the top of the clock speed battle.
