In line with Google I/O kicking off in San Francisco, Google has updated a raft of it's Android applications, with Chrome, Currents, Earth, Play Books, Plus and YouTube among those getting a new release.

In detail...
• Chrome has now shed it's Beta tag and is set to become the default browser on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
• Currents has a shiny new icon (strangely losing the 'Google colours')
• Earth has 'bug fixes' (groan)
• Play Books gets a number of fixes / features:
    • Add bookmarks to a page by tapping the top right corner or using the menu.
• Stream video and audio embedded in books.
• Support fixed-layout EPUBs (on Honeycomb or higher), SVG images(on Honeycomb or higher), and original fonts.
• Enable or disable auto text-to-speech in "Settings" menu.
• Enable or disable downloading via WiFi only in "Settings" menu.
• Links in books now works.
• Bug fixes.

[*]Plus gets an entirely overhauled UI in both Phone and Tablet form
[*]YouTube also gets a new UI, an option to preload videos while on WiFi and charging for smooth playback on the go and the ability to turn your phone into a remote, to play YouTube videos on other devices.
All are available to download now from the Google Play Store.
