Aldi (Belgium) Medion Lifetab MD 99300 (S9714)

8 posts in this topic

Aldi Belgium soon sells this tablet with IMO excellent spec/price ratio.

Anyone knows which manufacturer makes these Medion Lifetab tablets, and, if they qualify for rooting (I guess so) and popular custom ROMs?

Note that, recently, Lenovo bought Medion. Perhaps Medion Lifetab is a Lenovo?

(sorry: in German, I do not understand it either, but I guess better than Dutch)

Have a nice day.

I bought the device and I am happy with it!

apparently it is a Lenovo indeed

I tried xda "Root Many Android!" method from Linux with no success, but then: this may need some tweaking...

usb 1-6: new high-speed USB device number 103 using ehci_hcd

usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=0489, idProduct=e112

usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=4

usb 1-6: Product: LIFETAB_S9714

usb 1-6: Manufacturer: LENOVO

usb 1-6: SerialNumber: S97140E4E1

ubc: unknown partition table

~ # adb devices

the board seems A2110

(from default.prop)

ro.product.board=A2110

lsusb mentiones

Bus 001 Device 030: ID 0489:e110 Foxconn / Hon Hai

So it -may- be some sort of Lenovo Ideapad A2109/A2110A/S2110 manufactured by Foxconn

Hello,

I've a T-mobile pulse and it generally serves me well but I'm a little fed up of its small memory, old software version 2.x which means I can't install some apps and inability to tether anything to it.

I know I could root it and mess about with this and that but I'm reluctant to do so.

I'd rather just upgrade the phone to something not too expensive, I was thinking a Galaxy S2.

I did see a post on a site like redferret.net or gizmag.com which compared about 5 hot Android phones in from Asia.

I can't find the article now but it was basically a load of unknown (here) manufacturers producing some good stuff.

Does anybody know of any sources or have advice about getting a good phone at a better price from such a source?

Thanks, ATiQ

I can confirm that Medion Lifetab MD 99300 (S9714) can be rooted using

the XDA Bin4ry Root MANY ANDROID! Normal method. So, when asked:

Device type:

1) Normal

2) Special (for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab)

x) Unroot

Make a choice:

choose 1 even if it seems to suggest 2 ...

Thanks

Hi hejacobs

I have rooted from linux which finds the device with adb. From other operating systems (windows, macosx, ...) first be sure that adb finds and lists the device.

The Normal (unlike the Special one which does not work for this Medion Lifetab anyways) method is rather safe.

FYI: I have also built a CWM, so now one can make a nandroid backup.

Have a nice day.
