Before you do this, please make sure your chosen custom ROM/gapps is on your external card. I usually store any custom ROM/gapps package files in a folder I created simply titled "Custom ROM".

Build: OUK_P743TV1.0.0B05

Hey all,

I've found a really fast & simple way to go from the stock, unrooted Orange ROM with all that horrific bloatware to a fully working custom ROM in literally 3 minutes. Even the MAC address for the wifi is done for you.......sorted!

There is no need for any sort of drivers, or to have your handset connected to your computer, all you do need is a working wifi connection...................yup, all you need is wifi!

1. Before you begin, make sure you can access Google Play.

  • From your phone, open the Browser / Internet from your app list.

  • From your phone, go to tinyurl.com/skatetpt

  • The Android Market / Play Store should open with the page for "TPT Helper". Click the Download button, and then Accept & Download. Wait for it to install.

  • Open TPT Helper from the app list on your phone.

  • If you get a Disclaimer message, tap Accept.

  • You should see the message "ZTE Skate/Orange Monte Carlo detected, is this correct?" If you do, tap Yes.

  • Tap All In One.

  • Tap Skate-v2a.zip.

  • TPT Helper will now begin to download a file. Do not exit TPT Helper.

  • Once the download has completed, TPT will begin to unzip and verify the files. After a few seconds, you should see the message Files verified - Number of matches: 1/1. Tap OK.

  • Tap the Back / Return button once.

  • Tap Start TPT, and then tap Yes.

  • Your phone will restart. You should see a blue progress bar on your phone's screen. After a minute or so, you should see ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.1.4 has been installed.

  • 2. You will find, no matter what you do, the handset will always boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. Do not panic as my friend did, but for a minute or two, I did have that "oh crap, what have I done" feeling, just install your custom ROM...

    3.
    • Use the Volume buttons to highlight wipe data/factory reset

    • Press the home button to select wipe data/factory reset

    • Highlight and select Yes -- delete all user data

    • Once finished, highlight and select wipe cache partition

    • Highlight and select Yes - Wipe Cache

    • Once finished, highlight and select advanced

    • Highlight and select Wipe Dalvik Cache

    • Highlight and select Yes - Wipe Dalvik Cache

    • Once finished, press the Back / Return button once.

    • Highlight and select install zip from sdcard

    • Highlight and select choose zip from sdcard

    • Highlight and select the zip file you downloaded.

    • Highlight and select Yes - Install ... .zip

Then install zip/choose zip from sdcard any "gapps" packages that are needed with the custom ROM.

(Android ROM first, "gapps" package second)

    [*]

    [*]Reboot system

    [*]

[*]The first boot after installing a custom ROM usually takes longer than a normal boot...

I did this to my friends brand new unrooted Orange Monte Carlo running 2.3.4, & everything is fine.

His handset is now running 2.3.7 CM7 with no problems or issues! :)

And lastly, MERRY CHRISTMAS to MoDaCo guests, members & staff, have a good one girls & boys! :D

You haven't exactly "found" it, but still, good noob-proof guide.

And

Merry Christmas :)

Yeah, TPT Helper is hardly new. Always good to have a step by step guide for the newbies, though.

I know TPT Helper isn't new, I have never seen the method I used before, I always assumed CWM had to be installed to a rooted phone, but I now assume it doesn't matter either way?

Yeah, all custom TPTs come with CWM. That's pretty much what they're there for.

You can, of course, also flash CWM through fastboot. Either way works fine.

And also you could forget about formatting/wiping stuff because TPT does that for you already

Ah see, now you are just being a flash git, I didn't know that... ;)

Well this tutorial isn't the most effective one , i would go to a fresh install to a Custom ROM . It's just more stable

What the...please, elaborate.

I'm also confused. This is about as 'fresh install' as it could get.

Well for starters , that method on the topic works .... BUT you need to format EVERYTHING on Mounts and Storage.

Here's what i do ...

1. Stock ROM , download TPT Helper APP Z > Skate V2A and start the TPT Flash

2. On Clockworkmod Recovery i format this

- 1st i choose to Wipe both Cache and data

- 2nd i go to mounts and storage and i format EVERYTHING (Including Boot , Data , System , SD-EXT)

- 3rd i go to Advanced options and i do "Wipe Dalvik and Wipe Battery Stats"

- 4rd I Finally Fix the permission and turn the phone off

Then i install the ROM that i want

But..this wipes the whole phone, which is intended.

Then you just boot into cwm and install the ROM.

Analysis on your way:

1. You don't need to wipe cache and data because a TPT does this.

2. You don't need to format anything (except sd-ext if you have one), because a TPT does this

3. You don't need to wipe Dalvik because a TPT does this. Wiping battery stats is pointless.

4. Fixing permissions is pointless because there's no files to fix the permissions of.

So basically, whatever you're doing you really don't need to.

I don't think you know how and what a TPT actually does.

So what am i doing wrong when installing ColdFusionX 3 ?

I don't know. Do you TPT every time you install a new ROM?

Not really . I only do a Full TPT from the Stock ROM

Can you help me on IRC Channel or something like that ?

Why is the SD card write protected? So you can't push files to it through CWM?

If that's the case, then you can't do anything without putting it in a MicroSD card reader.
