Can Someone Clever explain my baseband question?

Hi,

I have a UK huawei G300 which has the following basebands (apprently!) taken from huawei uk website

GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz

UMTS 1: 900/2100MHz

UMTS 2: 850/1900/2100MHz

The australian G300 has the following basebands

HSPA 850/1200, GSM 850/900/1800/1900

Now, I will be getting sim card which operates on Teltras 3g (850 band) for my holiday.

Will this work on my handset, or do I need to buy a new handset?

How do I find out what 'baseband' my handset has (is that even the right terminology?!?!?!) and if it'll work?

shouldn't be a problem. As far as I'm aware, they are the frequencies the phone operates on.

Any issue would be with 3g data speeds I reckon.

depending on where you travel, you could be without any signal at all if travelling in the outback or outside major metropolitan areas.

Many GSM phones support three bands

(900/1,800/1,900 MHz or

850/1,800/1,900 MHz) or four bands

(850/900/1,800/1,900 MHz), and are

usually referred to as tri-band and

quad-band phones, or world phones ;

with such a phone one can travel

internationally and use the same

handset.

travelling Sydney to cairns, will be OK for signal. If you head overland towards uluru or on over to Perth, you won't have any signal for days at a time.

I was there 2007-2009 working holiday.
