Not sure why this is happening

After trying loads of JB based roms and most of them giving various problems I decided to revert back to an ICS based rom. I've tried to install Stock+, Infusion, Slim V13, and non of them would install. My phone just stuck on the Huawei splash screen and wouldn't go any further. The thing that these roms have in common is that they all have the gapps within the rom. I've tried again with a few other roms and I find that if I choose a rom that has the gapps to be installed separately it will install ok. I can't understand this. I've now got CM9 installed with it's separate gapps package and it appears to be working fine. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a cure for it ?

Are you sure that you are wiping (and maybe formatting) everything in CWM before installing a new ROM?
