We first saw the Huawei Watch a few days ago when photos of advertisement boards started to appear on Twitter. It would seem that either Huawei decided to advertise the device early or the advertising company installed the posters a bit too early. Twitter was soon buzzing with the excitement that we may finally have a beautiful Android Wear device.

Huawei released a few Teaser videos which are a little cheesy but they do show off the device and explain some of the design process which gives an interesting view of the device.

This afternoon the device was officially announced with many details but sadly no pricing or availability other than "coming soon" so we unfortunately won't be able to provide those to you. But we do have details of the device itself and features:

  • 1.2GHz CPU, 4GB storage, 512MB RAM
  • Cold forged steel chassis providing anti-scratch and anti-corrosion.
  • Scratch-proof Sapphire glass screen
  • 1.4inch 400x400 AMOLED display with 286ppi which is the highest resolution of any Android Wear device to date
  • 6-axis motion sensor that allows the device to know exactly which type of activity you are carrying out.
  • Heart rate monitor and barometer
  • Features Jawbone UP technology and device can synchronise with the Jawbone UP app or Android Wear
  • Uses a standardised 18mm strap width with several different designs availabled upon launch and compatible with many third party watch straps.
  • 40 watch faces included on the device
  • Runs Android Wear so offers all the features like Notifications etc
  • Will come in Gold, silver, or black
We are a bit disappointed that we don't have a release date or a price yet. One of the most interesting features is the support for Jawbone UP which allows users of the Huawei Watch to compare stats with other Jawbone users, not just Android Wear, which makes it a great upgrade device for anybody currently using a Jawbone UP device.
