just one more question, did you guys install the removesecurity.cab and .cab from francetelecom into the storage card or to the device? im currently installing the removesecurity into the device but the busy icon is still spinning for some time now. is it ok to press the home button to make it go away and then restart the phone? although my previous experience with this is that when i restart the phone, it just stops with the orange icon and never booted.

or should i install it in the storage card? never tried this yet cause i always install to the device.

You know, I had no issues whatsoever installing to the SPV until I installed chess and then I get the 'wheel' problem.

Tried the cab and doesn't make a difference....sadly

....but after uninstalling the chess app the problem is still there but the wheel no longer rotates....my head hurts

For those who are still having the problem, try the following:

- unlock using the FranceTelecom tool

- run the attached CAB

You should then be sorted

Cheers, Paul

That's sorted me out :P

Stu,

Did you remove the past cabs and start again with using only the french cab and Paul's new one?

Also do you get any wheel roating lark or does it resolve all issues.

I just can't believe that I have installed over ten cabs and no problems whatsoever and after installing chess I have the issues....its annoying enough to do a hard reset!

I've only ever used the French cab and have done no registry tweaking.

Today I ran Paul's cab and installed the clock thing from the Vox freeware thread, a couple of OmniG Soft games demoes and V2R's Photo Dialler.

Everything installed immediately with only the usual minimal spinner action. There was no need to soft reset between installations and certainly no battery pulling !

Both OrangeFrance & Paul's cabs were installed to phone.

You sure the chess app is compatible with WM6 ?

What software were you trying to install when the problem reappeared ?

coreplayer and route 66 caused the problem but it seems any unsigned apps or games show the wheel even pauls cab spins  i would not mind the wheel only if i get the notification that its installed , when everythings installed it all works perfectly except r66 which freezes on the start up logo :P

Well the rolling wheel did appear when installing the french unlocker and Pauls cab.....battery pulled....then it started again when installing the Modaco google cab and installing kevtris 2.

I have uninstalled the chess and won't install it again (for now).

I just find it very odd that two days when I was installing stuff I had no issues then BANG it appears.

I wouldn't mind having to to the battery pull out lark if it wasn't for activeSync being so touchy......install app...pull battery...restart...actviceSync see nothing....restart pc....activesync works....repeat.

Sod it!

Decided to Hard reset the smartphone (well its soo much faster to rebuild compared to a PPC), installed the process above and all seems well.

Never had the spinning wheel "bug" on my spv e650.

However the wheel keeps spinning for like 15 minutes and then does disappear.

I don't have an E650, and I'm just ranting off here having read this thread & the ensuing woes, but really, how embarrassing for Orange. After all this time, and the developments in the smartphone market, to the extent that the windows mobile is no longer the extreme niche market it was when I started, and they still make major stumbles such as this. Surelt there must be a large portion of the market that reads reviews of phones like this, sees the problems & decides to buy something else?

Also, how embarassing for the orange tech people, to release a device with a major flaw like this, that then seems to be fixed by users on internet forums, before they release a solution. What is going on with Orange? And why after all this time do they still appear to be such amateurs?

Everyone blames orange but its htc who screwed it up as the rom is done by them , the phones are then sent to the distubution centre where its sent out to the shops , so we should really be shouting at htc for not checking the phones before they were sent out

I thought the vox's with the htc rom didnt have this problem, but the e650 ones did. That would make it an orange problem, since it was them who tinkered around with the rom and didnt know what they were doing.

Hmm ... yeah, I thought roms were the responsibility of the network provider, not htc. It is an 'Orange' rom after all. Anyway, I'm only jumping in coz I haven't had a good old rant about O for a while!

But it' still odd I think, with other networks picking up their smartphone sales. When I was a smartphone user in the UK there really was only Orange providing them. O2 picked up on it, but now there seems to be so many more smartphones coming onto the market. I just think it's strange and a bit sad to see that Orange are still capable of making such blunders with their smartphones. You'd kind of think they should have had enough practise by now ... shouldn't they?

Except it's HTC that does the ROM customisation, based on Orange's instruction. (Or so Orange tell me)

Makes you wonder why htc do not test the phone after it has changed the rom for orange , if they had a quality control on the roms it supplies for the networks then they would have found the problem before the phone was sent to orange, it seems a rushed job to me to get the phone released at the same time as the vox came out, on this problem both htc and orange are to blame , just hope there is a fix soon or a htc vox rom update to replace the orange one , seeing as the vox has also its own problems a rom update should come soon

I've had a weird problem when I install apps on the phone. It often resets the background picture and sometimes the colour scheme. I'm sure it's also hosing the powersaving settings, but haven't had time to full test that.

It's more irritating than anything else. I also worry about what else in the registry is being stamped on.

Anyone else seen the same issues?

My first post here... I called 150 with the same issue ( tried to install Avantgo, worked a treat on my SPV600 which I upgraded from). Was told to contact HTC. I told Orange they supplied the phone, therefore they were responsible. I was told they supplied the connection and SIM card. I told them they supplied the phone... which was not fit for purpose...

Anyway eventually got put through to someone who took an interest and I reported the frequent freezing only remedied by battery removal, the inability to install applications and the issues when trying to text and the keypad only enters numbers into the text body, not letters.

The operator told me that he had not come across any of these issues before - ( i assured him everyone else on this forum had). He assured me he would pass it on to technical support - and call me with an update in the next few days. I'll share the update when I get it..!

Has anyone expereinced problems with wi-fi internet ? If you are required to log in with User Id and password nothing happens when you press the enter key. (If the site has a highlighted submit button thats ok)

In reply to a pm from Mutejute, here's how I application unlocked my phone.

Before I did the Francetelecom unlock I'd previously ran Pauls RemoveSecurity.cab file from here by copying it to my storage card and then running it and rebooting the phone. If that made a difference or not I'm not sure.

All I did to unlock mine was to register for the .cab file from http://spvunlock.rd.francetelecom.com/. Once I'd received the file I copied it to my storage card and ran it on the phone (only took a few seconds). Once it had finished I switched the phone off and back on again. I then downloaded Mobile Registry Editor from here. and made these changes as listed here by Xavalon.

The first one on my phone was already set to 1 so I only had to change the second one. I then rebooted the phone and my apps installed perfectly. Up to now I don't seem to have suffered from the problems a lot of people seem to be having.

I have also been able follow this process on my E650. I'll let you know how I get on.

The tweak seems to be install the app. on to the phone, choose device or card and let the coloured icon spin for a couple of minutes and then hit the Home button. Switch your device off (don't remove battery) it will appear as if it is not switching off but if you leave it it will after a period of time. Upon switching the device back on the app. will be installed correctly. Because it appears the device does not switch off it is tempting to remove the battery but if you do the app. will not install. Patience seems to be the key here.

Hi guys...

I just did a combination of things that I found on this thread and for the moment it seems to have worked. Not getting very excited yet though, cos at first I didn't have the installation problem... then somehow I got it... and I managed to temporarily get rid of it by uninstalling Agenda One... but after a couple of installations it came back.

I had installed the unlocking cab from Orange. I installed the ExtraUnlock cab from this thread... but no joy.

I thought I'd give it another go and I uninstalled both unlocking cabs and installed the ExtraUnlock cab first. I then did the registry changes (Proff. Yaffle's post) and finally I installed the Orange unlocking cab. But this time... instead of pulling the battery out after a lot of trivial pursuit rolling... I switched the phone off as normal. Nothing happened in the first couple of minutes.. so I went to bed. When I woke up the phone was switched off.

I switched it back on and I installed Agenda One. The installation went just fine! I then installed Route66 7 which wasn't installing properly before and after pulling the battery out and restarting it used to get stuck in the first screen. Now it's working great. Hopefully this fix is permanent!!

Hope this helps someone!

BTW, I had quite a few things installed already. I didn't have to uninstall anything else but the unlocking cabs.

J
