SPV E100 Installing - XML Games

I have recently bought an SPV E100 and been installing games listed:

SPInvaders, SPVMan Snake and ReBoundSP . I have downloaded a few other freeware games but they are XML format games with attached other files - How do I treat these files / Install them?

Normaly I put the exe. and reference them with a short cut in the games directory but when I do the same with the xml games the phone reads them like web pages. I must be doing something wrong.

On another not I have installed Doom, but the phone doesn't actually start the game - all of the credits and front doom screen roles through but after 20 minutes I just switch off - How long should it take to load?

Thanks in advance for any help -

Sounds like you are trying to install a CAB file. For more info see the 'first 48 hours' topic in the FAQ section

Direct link: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=89276 (at bottom of page).

Also I have tried Doom Legacy and that works OK. I put doom1.wad, legacy.dat and spvdoom_legacy in the same directory in Storage card. See the game section for Doom_legacy.

Also check your phone memory and make sure you have a healthy few megs free.

Hope this helps :)

Also could if anyone knows - which is the best value pay as you go service provider inc GPRS?

Im on Vodafone but the phones calling 'SPV phone home' back to Orange -Whats their service like? Helpful?

Is their a distinct link in Modaco that shows exactly the working settings for GPRS,WAP and MMS. Why phones have to be so unuser friendly with hidden settings I dont know.

Thanks In advance -

You need to create a GPRS connection in Settings-Data connections.

Click on GPRS settings and goto page 2 for to find the Vodaphone data :)

Hi cheers for the earlier reply. Still having problems The Xml games and freeware apps dont seem to have any cab files. The files are a mixture of numbers / abreviations - not any know type and one xml file. An example is Carrally game

_setup.xml with loads of files - 000datas.001

The phone treats it as a webpage and opens it up - I can see the code saying install but cant run the xml itself. Any ideas?

Another is HANG ON Ive solved it - It appears on my pc Cab files look like .rar files I extract them and i get the raw files. Solved - Just stick the Cab file as you said. Thanks solved!

Also I have used the GPRS settings I found on that link and the Small G above the signal strength appears but cant connect - I'll phone Vodafone to see if my simm has it enabled. Each time i try a connecting it costs me about 35p for nothing but a page cannot be opend. I read Vodafone are charging 73per kb (2003 vodafone pricing guide) thats £730 for a MB for non vodafone live pages is this still correct?

Any help on this last issue would be really greatful.

Nah, its 0.73p (less that 1p) per KB for Vodafone PAYT GPRS, so thats approx £7.30 per MB. AFAIK this is the most expensive pre-paid GPRS of the four networks.

You should have a top centre G displayed on the phone when it's turned on, if not then you will have to get GPRS enabled on your account.

You are not usually charged for a connection attempt using GPRS :?

These are the GPRS settings that you need

Settings-Data connections

Menu-Edit connections

Create a new GPRS connection.

Description: Vodafone GPRS

Connects to: The Internet

Access point: pp.vodafone.co.uk

User name: wap

Password: wap

In data connections make 'Internet connection: Vodafone GPRS'

In Internet Explorer untick 'auto detect settings' and make 'Select Network= The Internet'.

Thanks again for your reply - sounds a bit more realistic. Still £7:30 pricey.

Had a bit of disaster I was playing a game ( SPACRally 3D ) and the phone reset itself it then went into fits and starts and returned all of its original settings to default and killing all of my short cuts and installed apps. Im looking to reformat the phone and start again as I know now the best apps that I like. Also it lost all of the Vodafone settings and others.

Is Windows 2002 a read only system that can be formatted or do you install Windows ?

The phone still functions ok just all of its installed apps cannot be uninstalled. Ill keep looking on Modaco for any tips but if anyone out there could point me in the right direction - be really usefull !

Thanks again.

A hard reset will return the phone to it's 'out of the box' state. Obviously you will lose everything on the phone so it worth baking up your contacts, etc.

Make sure you have a charged battery before attempting the hard reset and note that the phone takes a LOT longer to boot up first time so be patient :D
