E200 - Timed Profiles

I have an Orange SPV E200. Work have recently put a restriction on the use of mobile phones. We should really switch them off but we can get away with a Silent mode that just vibrates.

What I am looking for is a time profile that switches the phone into Silent Profile during working hours and Automatic or Normal outside of these hours. I know this can be done by putting a Busy diary event for the duration of the day into my Outlook and setting the profile to Automatic, however this means that during work my diary will always be showing as busy (not a bad thing I know but not very practical for the secretary's scheduling meetings for me!)

Does anyone know of a way to do this or if there is an application around that can do it?

Regards

Mark

Sorry Mark I can't help, but Ditto I have the same need, anyone else have this need, enough people might mean a developer reading this might knock one up over night (I mean software program obviously and not an under age teenager with gold hanging off them that gets pregnant first go).

Not really a solution, more of a workaround, but why not have your hands free headset that came with the phone pluged in to your phone while you work, and just edit the headseat profile to ring on silent, then when your out of the office just unplug the headset and it should automacaly go back to your defult profile.

I here what your saying jon_ and its certainly an option but that is very similar to just switching the profile when I get to work and setting it back when I leave, although doing this I might well keep forgetting to turn it off Silent when I leave and miss phone calls that evening.

Good idea tho. Come on you developing guys, I would write one if I could!!!

...you have two options to do exactly that automatically:

- buy and install xbar. with the admin tool you can setup scheduled actions, e.g. xbar starts pressing the keys to switch profile from normal to silent every morning at 9 and every evening at 6 way back. it works, i've used it by myself.

- go HERE and click on smartwatcher, download and install it - i've never made it to the point that the switching of profiles worked like it should - but maybe you are more lucky. this is actually the type of application that we need to do it and as it seems it CAN work. maybe we should spam the inbox of the maker to go on with the development. unlucky he never answered my mails. thats why kjk and i created the xbar solution.

Cheers lutz. I've downloaded the SmartWatcher app but I keep getting errors with the ini file. I already have xBar2.0 so I will try your 1st recommendation.

Its a shame that SmartWatcher doesn't work cos it look exactly what I am looking for.

You never know, there may be another app the same written out by different people out there?????????? fingers crossed.....

hi mark,

i am facing the same situation as you do - have the phone on full power sound because i am carrying it in my pockets. in my office it hangs in the dockingstation an when it begins to bark (have submarine alert as ringtone), my colleagues face a heart attack...

a cool solution would even be that it switches to a more quite profile once i've put it in the docking station. but a profile switch with an app - even a simple toggler that only toggles between normal -> silent and silent -> normal would be ok (just like the bluetooth toggler i use with xbar to switch bt on at 8.30 am and off at 10 am and then on at 6 pm and off at 8 pm - the time i usually sit in my car with a bt free speach set).

here's how it works with xbar: if you use the original e200 rom and you can use the attached two files to switch between normal -> silent -> silent -> normal. simply copy the files on a folder of your phone, start xbar admin, setup a new task ("launch a file" and then go to silent or normal). But attention: I have set my keys to be locked after 5 minutes and to be unlocked again with key 9! you should do the same or modify both attached files with notepad to use the same key unlock as you use! otherwise it will not work, buddy...

let me know if it fits your need. you can always edit the files for your specific time/profile settings in notepad and copy them on to your e200.

cheers, lutz

Hi lutzh,

Thanks for this, I'm gonna set it up straight away. Can you tell me one thing, how do I start XBar Admin? I might be being really stupid here but the only thing I know how to use with XBar us the centre button pressed and held brings up the application list.

I also use the latest version of the E200 ROM that was meant to increase battery life. Will it still work on this version?

Thanks a lot.

hi mark,

it looks to me like you don't have downloaded the admin tool for xbar - get it HERE on the bottom of the page ("Desktop task scheduler wizzard"). also you should read the manual for it

HERE.

OK, so 2.2 is now working and its executing but I get a few funny key presses (the lock and unlock I think).

Do you use Key Lock or Device Lock - I normally only use Key Lock

To lock my phone I use "Hand Up" for a few seconds

To unlock my phone I use Menu1 then #

Both these are the standard keys.

How do I can to use what you use?

Thanks for all your help.

go to:

start/settings/more/security.

then "enable phone lock".

i have here 5 minutes and password 9.

now your phone automatically enables phone lock after 5 minutes.

to unlock, you only press 9/unlock - just like in the old nokia times where you pressed menu/*. its useful to have that enabled to protect your phone from unauthorized use anyway...

if you test the profile switch by xbar make sure that your phone locked itself (take down the 5 minutes to two or so), since the scheduled task will simulate your key pressing as you would switch profile by hands (like: 9, unlock, start, settings, profiles, XXX or YYY). if the auto keylock is not enabled (you key locked by pressing the hang up key) key unlocking would be menu/#/unlock - different to the commands in the xmc files...

ok?

cheers, lutz

Another option is to use the automatic profile function.

Change the phone to automatic (power button and select automatic) and then if you have a re-occurring weekday appointment entered into the calendar that is set to busy, the phone will switch to the silent profile when the appointment starts, and switch back to normal when it ends.

dh, thanks for the though but this will leave my diary always showing busy and the secretary's won't see any free time in my diary for booking appointment (not bad idea though).

lutzh, I'm running xbar 2.2 now and have ran the task scheduler and created two test tasks (see below for extract of the scheduler config file). The Silent one does exactly as your and the one called Dav simply runs Profiles.exe. The problem I have having is that they never seem to run, no error message, no nothing. I have uninstalled Xbar and reinstalled but this doesn't seem to fix the problem. Any ideas?

The only other idea I had was two put a task in outlook by mark this has being FREE (so secretary's can book me meetings). I don't think the SPV will switch profiles (when set to automatic) when a meeting is flagged as FREE (not busy). Is there any way around this?

Thanks you guys...

OK, I can't do it overnight. But hopefully, I should get be able to knock one up this weekend. It will be a very simple one at the start, but it should do the job.

Noop, thanks very much, that would be great if you could. I'm sure that there are many people in the same position as myself and such application would benefit us very much.

Thanks

Mark

After searching everywhere, I am afraid, there isn't a way to programmatically changing the profile. (I have tried changing the registry manually, but no luck) The API to do this is not available to the public. So unless Microsoft tell us how to do it. I am afraid there isn't a lot I can do. Sorry Mark, can't help you.

I would also be interested if anyone had looked at it as it certainly sounds like it would do the job well but I didn't get it to work.
