Squall that's not very helpful [-X

You know what the question was ment to say :P

I can't remember what I had on 2002

but 2003 has 11.48MB physical memory free and 4.71MB Storage (IPSM)

This is not after a Hard Reset though.

It seems WM2003 use more program memory. I have 18MB free program memory on WM2002. IPSM free memory is 3.8MB. Both of them are important, if you installed too many apps. Some apps cannot be installed on Storage card. One example is Orneta Notepad which I need it everyday.

I don't want to belittle @nonymous' work at all so don't take this as such;

The amount of free memory on an MPx200 with WM2003, both in terms of storage and program memory, suggests to me that the MPx200 isn't up to running it. It is severely reduced. Under 2002, I can run far more apps at once without running short of program memory while under 2003, I could only load a few and then, if I was using Mapopolis I could only load a few small counties along with National Roads.

As far as storage is concerned, installing big apps becomes a potential no-no because of the temp files stored in the main memory while now that I'm back under 2002 I'm able to install SwingCat.exe ;-) to IPSM.

To think that @nonymous worked at stripping stuff out of the ROM, one has to wonder what on earth was put onto the phones of those 'special people' who got the official version and whether or not they have enough space to store Pinhead.doc ;-) !!!!

mpx200 built-in memory: RAM: 32 MB, Flash ROM: 32 MB, processor PXA250 @ 200 MHz

orange e200 built-in memory: RAM: 32 MB, Flash ROM: 32 MB, processor TI OMAP 710 @ 132 MHz

samsung i600 built-in memory: RAM: 32 MB, Flash ROM: 48 MB, processor PXA250 @ 200 MHz

mitac 8390 built-in memory: RAM: 32 MB, Flash ROM: 32 MB + 16 MB, processor PXA262 @ 200 Mhz

and for reference

mpx220 built-in memory: RAM: 32 MB, Flash ROM: 64 MB, processor TI OMAP 1611 @ 200 MHz

also an excerpt from an article i found online....

....."While for devices having 16 MB RAM an upgrade to Smartphone 2003, although technically possible, is practically not useful, all smartphones with 32 MB RAM can be easily upgraded to Smartphone 2003. Among Smartphone 2002 powered cellphones Motorola MPx200 and Samsung i600 both have 32 MB RAM..."

TANKERx, to me it is quite clear that the mpx200 is perfectly suited for the WM2003 firmware...it is more than capable of running the new OS without any problems....

do some reading and i'm sure you'll realize the same...

additionally...thanks to @nonymous and others we have freedom of choice...you want to run branded Smartphons 2002 firmware go right ahead, do you prefer a choice of generic/unbranded Smarphone 2002 generic, they're available! or do you fency the latest and the greatest(? :P ) and want to run Smarphone 2003?

hehe...to each they're own i guess...but thankfully we've got options to choose from!

cheers,

chudy

TANKERx now you know why the mpx200 with 2002 runs

faster than the E200 with 2003 (also the larger memory cache on the mpx200 helps)

Hey fella, calm down already! I've made it perfectly clear in this post and others that I'm not disrespecting the work of @nonymous at all so don't start!

As for the RAM values you quote, all I can go by is what I've seen on my phone. Under 2002 on my phone, I can run far more applications at once without running out of memory. Under 2002, I can install Lextionary without running out of internal memory. Under 2003, I can run far fewer applications and I have to install lextionary using a convoluted method of copying the .CAB file to the SD card first.

I accept that I may have installed the 2003 image wrongly and that may have filled up my phone's memory, but you quoting all the numbers this side of Galactic Central Point will not change the fact that my MPx200, under 2003, ran out of memory far quicker while using Mobipocket or Mapopolis.

I'll check the numbers you gave me mate, but it won't make my phone work any better.

And this is not, as I said, to disrespect @nonymous. I wouldn't know where to start with hacking a ROM. And as for choice, then cool, go for it, but this topic is about program memory and I expressed an opinion.

TANKERx, it wasnt my intention to attack you or be agressive, so my apologies if it came across that way...i just wanted to give a reference point of hardware specs for diff phones and do a little comparison...

i realize that the mpx200 has less usable space with WM2003 than it did with 2002, i've come across issues concerning it as well....but it seems like the e200 (maybe others) have the same issues and they've been designed to be WM2003 phones from the get go...

for some people (like me) WM2003 is the preffered OS due to the under-the-hood technologies it brings to the table...so i'll have to live with the memory shortcomings, for those who need more ram space and dont take advantage of the new features in WM2003, 2002 is the OS of choice.

the latest build from @nonymous give me

5.31 available storage

8.18 total storage

10.71 available memory

17.66 total memory

its defo less than before 2k3 by a few meg on each i think

later

I just do a master reset on my MW2002. After that I installed most of apps to SD card. Some apps cannot be installed on SD card. It gives me:

-------------------------------------

Total memory: 28.41MB

Storage memory: 3.52MB

used: 432.04KB

free: 3.09MB

Program Memory: 24.89MB

used: 5.07MB

free: 19.82MB

IPSM : 11.03MB

used: 2.98MB

free: 8.05MB
