Guest fechy Posted August 2, 2004 Report Share Posted August 2, 2004 I have a SPV 100 in Switzerland, where Orange does not offer the ROM-update 1.6 . In fact, the people @ Orange Switzerland tell me it's not a good idea to download and install 1.6. off the British site, but offer no explanation. Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 3, 2004 Report Share Posted August 3, 2004 Each carrier (even Orange across different countries) adds its own performance and network-specific tweaks to each update. Officially you should not install any non-native updates on your phone (eg and i-mate onto an Orange handset to be used in the UK), so what they are telling you on the phone is "the official line". Practically you should have no problems with the UK update on your handset. Officially you shouldn't install any other updates on your phone, and if it does screw it up you're pretty stuck... I did same update 3-4 months ago without any loss but language support (menus and dictionaries). Swiss version support 4 languages while english rom only has english. I had some strange connection problems using italian providers GPRS with built in IE with swiss versions while this one works great ! In conclusion my upgrade to 1.6 was a good idea.
