Guest GazH
All, I've had a look around the forum but can't find any entries for this. When I recieve a call from 'Unknown' (numbers routed through a switchboard) and try to answer (pressing the normal answer button) the call is ended and the caller is put straight through to the Orange answer service. I have ROM 2.6.1.3, and when this happens I do have the key lock on (if that makes a difference). Any one else had this ?? Is this cured on the newer ROM. Thanks in advance Gaz
Guest James
I have not heard of this one before... (may be a config option??) Do you have an E200? if so i would suggest trying the latest ROM upgrade... http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/promo.ht...eUpgradeAug2004
Guest GazH
I do have an E200. Will have a look at the config and see if anything looks like it could be it. Have thought of the ROM update, but if it isn't anything to do with the ROM then I'm nto really interested in upgrading just for the sake of it. Obviously if the new ROM would solve it I will install it. May even ring Orange (if I get desparate) and see if they've heard of this. Cheers for the reply...please keep em coming Gaz
Guest pisquee
You should upgrade to the most recent ROM as it is an improvement over the previous attempts - there is nothing to be scared of.
Guest GazH
Upgraded to the latest ROM and it made no difference to the 'unknown' number problem. Although I think my battery is lasting longer ^_^ Have rang Orange, who ran a diagnostic tool, and found nothing wrong. They have passed it on to their Tech support...Apparently I should hear something within 9 days  will update when I hear something.. Guest GazH
I had to ring Orange today as I had no reply.. Firstly I had a call this morning from a 'private' number and it got sent through to the answer service when I tried to pick it up..as it has always done... So, when I rang Orange the Customer services rep said he would look into it and get back to me... When he rang back the that call (and a further call from Orange) were put through to the answer service when I tried to pick it up... At this point I was presuming that my phone was putting any numbers that weren't in my contacts list through to the answer service when I tried to pick them up... But a couple of hours later the customer services rep rang me back (on the same the number as they did earlier) and I was allowed to answer without the call being put through to the answer service... Anyway...I have been told by Orange to perform a master reset of my phone to try to cure the problem (which I haven't done yet..). My First question is: would a master reset do anything a ROM upgrade wouldn't ??? Secondly would I have to re-install all my apps / contacts etc after a master reset. It also seems like they must have done something at Orange as I have answered another call this afternoon that was from an 'unkown' number...so I may wait and see how it goes... Sorry that was long winded....thanks for bearing with it... Cheers Gaz
Guest ferret
A master reset (more commonly known as a hard reset <-click me) will restore your phone to the 'out of the box' state. The ROM upgrade will remain along with any SIM unlocks. The SD card will remain untouched however you will loose everything on the phone including contacts, SMSs, shortcuts, I could go on! Make sure you backup everything. Syncing contacts to outlook, use orange backup. You might be interested in some third party backup programs. Sprite back up is good in my opinion. Guest GazH
Well, this keeps rumbling... Been in touch with Orange loads of times over the past few days, as on Monday ALL calls to my phone were put through to the answer service when I tried to answer my phone. These calls have all been from numbers in my phones contact list. Technical support just passing the case back to CS with answers like 'The customer must be either leaving the phone to ring for a length of time that allowed the call to be diverted' or 'The person on the other end of the line hung up before I answered it'.....if the person hung up how come they left a message ???? Orange say they can't replace the phone as they don't know what the error is .... really  and aren't offering any solutions to the problem.. In the meantime I'm having to use my old Nokia 6210 to see if this does the same thing..... I was presuming that I would be within my rights to cancel my contract as the phone is 'not fit for purpose' as it doesn't fulfil the basic reqirement of a phone - being able to take calls -.....According to a supervisor I spoke to last night that isn't the case as they don't make the phones... Anyone got nay ideas as to how I can get a resolution on this as its been going on for nearly 2 months now and its starting to do my head in.... Guest dynamo
Mmm, that does sound quite odd.. My only conclusion to this is that your 'answer' button is sending the wrong signal to the OS i.e. its sending the 'end call' signal. When you normally press the 'end call' button deliberatly, it sends the caller to the answer phone. When you did the ROM upgrade you reset the phone anyway, so it doesn't look like a config problem, more like a hardware fault. I'm interested to know if your 'answer' button EVER acts the same as the 'end call' button in other instances (such as to lock the keypad, or end a call). Next thing you could try is to turn off all call forwarding options (in settings->phone->call forwarding) and see what happens. Cheers, dynamo
Guest GazH
Cheers Dynamo, Good idea to try the answer call button and see if it locks the keypad...will give that a go.. Will also give the call forwarding a go as well....cheers Gonna keep hassling Orange though.....not happy about being stuck with a dodgy phone and they not doing anything about it..... Worst thing is....I rather like using my old 6210 again...... Cheers Dynamo Gaz
Guest GazH
Well, I forgot that I was paying for Orange Care every month didn't I... So, I thought that was going to be the answer to my problems...'If your phone doesn't work we'll get a replacement if you pay some money every month for the privelidge of Orange Care cover'....at least that what I thought it meant.. Apparently it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference, as Tech Support don't have a 'problem code' for my problem..... So I've got to now wait until they get back to me (they've got 9 days after all) ..... and then ask me a couple of questions that I've probably answered before.... then wait another 9 days for them to ask me some more questions......etc .....etc .....etc.... In the meantime I've got a phone that doesn't work and (as I've just remembered) I'm paying for monthly insurance that doesn't actually cover me for my phone (or whatever it is) being faulty... And for some reason they won't send me a replacement SIM card...even though they haven't ruled out the fact that it may be something to do with that.... Cheers Orange.......dead impressed with your service... I don't think... Gaz
