According to the lastest info I rec'd from Moto, the good news is that they now have updated F/W, revision is .342 (dot three four two), as compared to mine which is .325 (you can verify that Start->Setting->About-- Manufacturer.

The other good news is that they're flashing the units in the channel as well as at Cingular, I presume Cingular's warehouses & Moto's warehouses.

The BAD news for those of us who have the exclusively-released-by-BestBuy units is that Moto will not make this available for download (why change policy, right?), so the only way to get the updated F/W on our units require a trip to the National Service Center.

Before someone jumps the gun, this is what I was told by a Moto employee, I have not sent my unit in yet so I don't know if it in fact will solve the volume issue.

I now have the .342 firmware, it is cingular branded.

The bluetooth com port creator is gone, it now seems to create active sync

port on its own in the background.

The bluetooth headset issue with the mic muting on the first call is not fixed, the workaround is to transfer the sound back to the phone and then back to the headset.

I am still researching the changes and I will post my findings, if you have a question, post it and I will try to answer.

p.s. I have this loaded on HW rev. 0005

tnx,

Motorola of course, will know by tomorrow when I get mine back..

Guardian, the million $ question is: How's the in-call volume? Any improvement?

Unfortunately I have not seen a call volume issue with my Black 0005 Hardware Engineering Sample, the volume didn't seem to change any from

.312 firmware to .342.

[edit by midnight: do not encourage piracy by asking for the MPx220 firmware, as you know this will be copyright Motorola and until they decide to make it available for download we will not allow people to ask, link, upload the rom]

It's .342, not 3.42  My phone was not SIM/App locked, and it's not locked after the flash, I am in the middle of reinstalling apps & games, so far everything went fine, no difference.

Volume appears to be improved, and person I called said my side came through fine. Howver, this is all subjective and hardly conclusive at this point. I didn't see any other changes, camera still sucks.

602, it's on the BB internal site and I don't have a link, sorry. You may want to check around your store and see how to get to it, I would imagine it's under NEWS items that is by department.

BTW, 602, if you don't mind, once you find out the policy of BB, e.g. would they be swaping with new stock when available, etc., could you post that here? Thanks!

They'll be swapping out their stock for the "updated" ones with the orange stickers on the box. The updated phones will probably arrive in the next two days.

Other than that Best Buy has a 30 day return policy on phones. You can return it for whatever reason you want in those 30 days, so you could just take it up there and swap it for an updated one with no questions asked.

I swapped my 2 week old MPX220 today for the orange dot on the box, .342 version at Best Buy in Houston today with no problems.

It seems Motorola is supposed to send out a mass Text Message to all Mpx220's (interesting that they can do this !!) with details on how to get the replacement, but walking in the store seemed much easier to me.

[edit by midnight: do not spread the MPX220 firmware as this is illegal, people wishing to upgrade should have it done at the retailers]

It works on my engineering sample 005 hardware, but I still have battery life issues, I barley get 2 hours use out of a battery!

Just swaped my phone out at Best Buy for the new .342 one. Volume much better through mike and speaker!!!

Note this if you have a 220 and want to get a updated one-

When you go to Best Buy to get the updated phone, if you aren't in your first 30 days, they may tell you to take a hike because you aren't in your "free exchange" period. Tell them you talked to a motorola customer service rep named "laura" and her operator id is ".....". Just make up a five digit number starting with 34. Let them know that the rep said that Best Buy will be letting people exchange the phone regardless of purchase date as a result of the FACTORY RECALL. Make sure you tell them it was a recall (it wasn't.) that'll normally seal the deal and then they'll let you swap out. Worked for me!

PS- I actually did talk to "laura" personally and she said they should help me regardless of when I bought it.

(glad i got to swap, i had a big scartch on mine)
