Alternative batteries.

Again apologies for being pretty comp illit.......but I have a real problem with my battery. The best I can manage, (with ALL permutations of on in the cradle...off in the cradle........charger only, etc...) is 30 hours standby, and that is WITHOUT doing much at all other than have the damned thing on!! I spole at length to Orange, and they believe in my case it's a handset fault, and have authorised a new phone. Having seen the numbers of people with similar problems, I was wondering, if there is another battery that may fit, which could hold a charge better?

Failing that....is this something that it is possible to affect in an upgrade? Or is purely hardware related?

Thanks oh knowledgeable ones...

My "feeling" on battery life is that it is pretty terrible for everyone. Basically charging the phone every day is a must. I wouldn't expect that the replacement phone that Orange has authorised will make much difference.

However it seems to me that actual usage of the phone doesn't increase the battery usage that much.

Now... rumors... the software update which will hopefully arrive late january is supposed to improve battery life. This wouldn't surprise me too much as my guess is that even when the phone isn't being used there are too many bits of the operating system mucking about and wasting power.

Also there is a rumor of a higher capacity battery at some stage.

So, in a nut shell, if charging the battery every day is not your cup of tea, then it MAY improve in the next few months but that may mean buying a new battery (although if a high capacity battery comes out I'd like to see everyone putting pressure on Orange to give them to us free as their battery life stats are ... lies). If you absolutely can't live with it... get a different phone.

thanks for that....its definitely a pain...and I'm sure they MUST be aware of it. Too many people have complained for it not to be a major problem. Its annoying to be quoted 100 hours standby.......and even allowing for wishful thinking I thought I'd get three days...... (I always charge each day....but away on business it gets easy to forget!) I love it for all the other reasons tho...so guess I'll stick with it and hope....x

Battery life will almost definately improve in the next version of software - all those apps running in the background must be able to be handled more efficiently.

I get a day and a half of phone on a charge with moderate use - the biggest increase in battery life happened quite oddly when I switched to the full layout with no time out (also sped up the phone).

Here's looking forward to a nice 2000mAh battery..

Emad...can u explain what u mean by the full layout??.....:D Thanks

It means change your homescreen to "Full Layout" (not an Orange one) in settings...home screen, which a lot of people have said increases their phone's speed and battery life. Possibly because it uses the microsoft plugins instead of the Orange custom ones it is more efficient, i'm not sure!

Indeed - the Orange one is much slower and the plugins probably aren't as optimised.

Just go to Programs -> Settings -> Homescreen. Change the layout to Full and the Timeout to Never for a nice speed/battery boost. The user created layouts also seem quite nippy - I'm using the Windows XP style one from smartphony.org (see customisation forum).

Hi All

Just a wee post, dunno if this has been posted before but if you set your multipress timeout to 1/2 in settings...accesibility you should notice a speed boost, which might help battery life.

Probably talkin out my ass tho

Hello,

Can anyone tell me anywhere you can buy a spare battery for the SPV E100, websites etc? or if there is a newer longer lasting one coming out, where it will be available from?

I've looked at the Orange website and its now saying they have no accessories at all available for the E100? I haven't been able to find any on the websites I've searched either.

David
