I have managed to get the contacts synced OK (after a bit of work!!!), but I'm having problems with the calendar...

Basically, I entered all my info on Outlook 2000 (meetings, birthdays, holidays etc.), but for some reason, it doesn't transfer any to the phone that are 'all day events'  . Only regular appointments appear. This also means that although many of the contacts have birthdays set (in both Outlook 2000 and after transfer to the phone), the birthdays don't show up in the phone's calendar. I've also tried creating a contact from scratch on the phone with a birthday, and that didn't appear in the calendar either .

So does anyone know if there is a simple way to get this working, or if it's a known fix (and if so, are they working on a fix?)?

That's very odd, because my all day appointments definitely sync (Outlook 2002).

I did a little playing around, and found that I can get 'all day appointments' to work in two ways:

1) Create the item on the phone, it then syncs with Outlook
2) Create the item in Outlook WHILST THE PHONE IS IN THE DOCK

Still no apparent solution to the birthday's not showing in the calendar though - any ideas anyone?

make sure you are using the corporate and workgroup version of outlook2k

"make sure you are using the corporate and workgroup version of Outlook2k"... I assume this is the one supplied on the disc? I am currently using the version I had installed from Office 200. I'll give the other one a try - fingers crossed it won't kill all my contacts .

You might want to think about backing up your '.pst' file, just in case...

In Outlook 2000, this is set when you first run Outlook and can be changed via ToolsOptions menu item and the "Reconfigure Mail Support..." button on the Mail Delivery Services tab.

backup up your pst files, just in case anyway (you may need the cd to reconfigure it)

If I reconfigure Outlook for coporate/workgroup, will I still be able to use it for my ISP based mail?

Oh dear  :cry: no joy. I tried the reconfigure option, but that didn't work - I got the following error message:

Unable to open default email folders. Outlook could not start because a location to send and recieve mail could not be found. To add a location, such as a personal folder file, double click the Mail icon in Windows Control Panel

I resintalled the internet email option, but it still comes up with the same error :cry:.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to take this forward?

double click the Mail icon in Windows Control Panel

click add

select internet and email

if that still doesn't work
try reinstalling outlook, which is sometimes much quicker option

Thanks for your help on this one. Unfortunately, after several installs and reinstalls, I still couldn't get it to work - thank god for Windows XP System Restore .

Despite my troubles, I've found a way to get everything working without having to use the corporate/workgroup option. I hadn't realised that although an all day appointment will show in Outlook, it won't appear in the month view on the phone unless the item is marked as 'busy'. Doing that solved the problem . Also, I found that I can finally show birthdays in the phone by making the item 'busy' as well.

I think that the learning curve is quite steep for me as I've never really used Outlook on my PC before. But I'm getting there .

Are you actually adding people's birthdays directly into the calendar?

The contacts have a birthday field, and if you populate that, they should automagically appear in the calendar?

Originally, I created a contact in the phone, and enetered a date in the birthday field, and this didn't appear in the callendar. However, the method that now works is to enter it (either on phone or PC), then in Outlook on the PC change the birthday to show as 'busy', and that way it appears OK. It's not too much trouble to do this, so I don't mind it .

Is there a way that you know of to enter a contact on the phone, with a birthday, and have it appear in the calendar?

Actually, I think you have been very helpful, as if I hadn't played around with things like you suggested, I never would have stumbeld accross the solution I have . Thanks anyway .
