M2000 :: SMS creation issues, Orange denies all knowledge

So I've arranged my upgrade - although I can't order the handset until the next billing cycle for reasons that weren't made clear to me - but I was a little worried about the SMS issues that I've been reading about on here, with only 70 characters per message if you use apostrophes and the like.

Considering I've bumped myself up to Orange Premier, and I'll be getting a top of the line handset, I asked for some assurances that the issue would be fixed soon, and that for the duration of the bug's existence, I would be charged for 160 characters per message, not 70.

This is what I got back:

Dear [me]

Thank you for your mail about the SPV M2000

Orange is not aware of any such issues with this handset.

If you have any other questions please call our Customer Services on 150 from your Orange Pay Monthly phone or 07973 100150 from any other non Orange phone. Our Helpdesk is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and any of our representatives will be pleased to assist you.

Kind regards

So what's the story here? Has the bug been fixed? Have I just been lied to? Or has nobody at Customer Services been told about the bug, and it's only known about at Orange Tech and MoDaCo...?

I'm gagging for this phone - if I have to cart my Dell Axim and C500 around together any more, I'm going to go bananas. But I'm not willing to put up with such a significant bug, and one that could prove quite costly to me considering how many text messages I send every month; if I'm currently sending between 700 and 1000 messages a month now at 160 characters per message, with only 70 characters in a message on the M2000 I'll be inadvertently sending twice as many messages and paying twice what I'd otherwise pay on the C500.

Grrr.

I have been told that customer service reps have been made aware of the issue.

However the MoDaCo community has come to the rescue with the solution before Orange. You will find the answer you are looking for HERE
