Hey all.

I've got an M1000 which I've had for about 6 weeks or so now.

In the time I've had it, I've had 3 hard resets.

Once my own fault (thought I could leave the battery off for a lot longer than I did before reset)

Once because of a crash (trying to change to landscape mode using dotpocket)

And again yesterday (really dont know what happened. Phone had crashed while in my pocket. Took out the battery and put it straight back and it had reset :))

Anyway, I'm getting quite fast at setting everything back up now!

What I'd like to know is:

What's the best way to backup?

I know I could use Orange backup and so on but what I'm after is something like Ghost, where I can just dump an 'image' of my set up back onto the device when it's died.

Can anyone recommend any?

hello again, yes can can use the orange method but there might be a gprs charge and its quite slow.

there are quite a few back up tools around, some free some for money. If you got acomputer you can sink what you want and use the computer to back your stuff up.

I use a sd card and the xback up tool thats in the programmes menu....nice and simple, hope this helps :)

Why not use ActiveSync which is supplied on CD with the M1000?

It's free, and as well as allowing you to synchronise important Outlook data and files whenever the M1000 is connected to the PC, it has a full backup and restore utulity which enables you to completely restore your device to a previous state.

So using the Activesync backup, if my device hard resets and loses everything i can just restore it and i get EVERYTHING back EXACTLY as it was at last backup?

I mean, my today screen setup, my ringtone settings, installed apps, etc?

This is what I'm after. What I'd like is something that takes very little time and effort to do (rather than the hour or so it takes to get my files back on, set up my today screen and reinstall some apps).

YES! It backs up EVERYTHING, and restores your device EXACTLY, Today screen set-up, settings and all!

A full back-up takes me about half an hour, after that you can set it to carry out incremental back-ups, which then only back-up any information that has changed since the last back-up. A full restore takes about half an hour too, but it's far easier than re-installing eveything and setting the device up again!

Great! :)

Does anyone know how that file got attached to my last post?!?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I can't recommend enough Sprite Pocket Backup....not only is it easier to use than xBackup or activesync, but it is selfcontained in that you can backup locally to an SD card as a self executable file....that means in the middle of nowhere, you can get your Pocket PC up and running EXACTLY as it was before simply by clicking on the .exe file in your SD card after a http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset....you can copy the .exe file to your pc for safe keeping also....plus, and i think this is great too, you can specify what to back up on a scheduled basis (ie just settings and email etc and not programs, meaning you can deduce one at a time whether the http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset was down to a rogue program)

i set mine to back up every evening....

it is a great program

regards

Mark
