"Fail to initialize SIM, possible Radio Off or SIM Failure."

I had recently updated to Smartphone 2003, however I recieved this message when I tried to access the SIM manager to retrieve my phone numbers. I've tried re-flashing to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the retaining tabs that they are not broken.

If they are place a small folded piece of paper between the SIM

and the battery to hold it in place.

I checked it and tried putting a piece of paper there just in case. I still get the same message when I try to access the SIM manager. Also, I have a problem with my voice mail. I used to be able to hold down 1 and get my voice mail. Now I can't. I was wondering if these to issues are interconnected. Anyone else experience the same problems or is my phone just "Retarded". I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me. I am also thinking about returning to Smartphone 2002 since the upgrade did mess up my SIM manager. Thanks again for any help.

for the voice mail access number, simply go to settings> phone> Call options then enter your voice mail access number

I got my voice mail to work, however I still can't access my SIM card. I'm wondering if it is a faulty version of Smartphone 2003. Anyone have a known working one or a version of Smartphone 2002 or know where to download it. Any help is appreciated.

I'm having the same exact problem as you are. I just got a new mpx200 and i sent it to an ebay unlocking service and i also have wm2003 and i cant use the sim manager. I get the same error message. Luckily i synchronized my contacts on my computer so i just downloaede it back to my phone. Try doing that.

It's a really interesting problem. I can use the SIM card's speed dial, using the contact's stored number then using the # key. I just can't manage those numbers. I would like to solve this problem rather than getting a way around it. Thanks though.

Are any of you on T-Mobile by any chance? I have the same problem with my T-Mobile SIM. I can save contacts to the SIM and read contacts from the SIM. If I press down and hold the "1" button, it goes right to my voice mail. I just can't use the SIM manager software on the phone. I occasionally get the SIM failure warning too, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. I'm guessing that it's just a bug in the hacked WM2003 firmware I'm running (the latest hellomoto hack before @nonymous dropped out). I won't go back to WM2002 over it though....still more improvements than disappointments in my phone as it is now.

I'm on T-Mobile also, with the exact same problems. I can use the speed dial for my voice mail. I get the error message on startup of the phone and when trying to use the SIM manager. I called C/S and they said that it was probably because the phone was unlocked, which I kinda doubt. Hopefuly someone will figure this out and let us all know.

Dale.

Hey

I recently bought MPX200 off of ebay and it came with the updated WM2003. Well now with the issue about the sim error.

I counducted a small test. I had a sim from asia. I replaced the cingular sim with the one from asia and the sim works like a charm with the phone.

But when I use the sim from Cingular, it gives the error on start that sim is not recognized. If I press ok too fast the screen goes on to the unlocking page as if the phone is locked. If I wait for a couple of sec then it will boot but will not be able to search for the network. Manual search of the network is possible and then I can find the network.

So that is my problem there too. But to make the long story short and to kill the suspence from this "Fail to initialize SIM, possible Radio Off ..." BS, I think this experiment proves nothing is wrong with the phone. Now we need to figure out what diff do these sims have from the one from asia.

Let me know if you can build up on this info. We can design a few more experiments to figure out stuff. Let me know.

Yeah, I used to have that problem with my old dual band mpx200. Sadly, the "snapping to unlock" error was something I was only ever able to resolve by reflashing the phone altogether.

If you take that route, REMEMBER TO FULLY CHARGE YOUR BATTERY FIRST

Hey!

Few more updates.

Switched it back to 2002 and all the sim errors gone. the sim manager works too. Now dont know what next. Seems like a bug in 2003. But the 2003 works well with the sim from asia.

EDIT read the rules

my Orange 3g sim does exactly what you've described above when in my mpx200 and running 2003

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Flash it back to 2002. And then hard reset. The firmware i have seems to have solved the following problems

Increased battery life

Increased signal strength

Better quality sound

No sim errors

Sim manager works tooo

I've already been back on smartphone2002 for over 2 weeks, just saying what happens when I tried the 2003 msmobiles rom image.

Saying that, I do know a couple of people who are solving the bugs on the 2003 image

I had the same problem when I upgraded to WM 2003. I am located in the Bahamas and using my phone with BATELCO here - so I don't think that this issue is carrier specific.
