Hi all, I've just taken out an Orange contract and got myself a C500. All was going well (and to an extent still is) but it's just too flippin' slow!

I run a couple of app's, TomTom Mobile and SiDiary being the primary ones, but tend to exit them rather than leaving them running in the background but still the C500 is too slow.

Would a Jam or M2000 be a better bet? I'm presuming these will run quicker than a C500?

Anyone here had both? Advice appreciated! :D

I didnt think my C500 was slow when I had it, but each to their own I suppose. The Jam and M2000 both run at approximately 400Mhz, with the Jam being slightly faster. I have a Jam and find it quite nippy, but like I said, I didnt find the C500 slow either!  :D  If you can, get your hands on one first before you buy. Try popping into an O2 shop and asking for a demo of the XDAIIs, which is O2's version of the M2000. Pointless trying an Orange shop for the M2000, they are out of stock everywhere!

I have both, but again I didn't find the C500 slow.
The Jam has become my main device but I do miss the one-handed, simple operation of the Smartphone. Generally speaking the stylus is tricky to get used to and I've only just realised what those buttons are there for

Thanks chaps, I should probably add that just before the C500 I had my hands on a Ipaq HX4700 for a couple of weeks and maybe that raised my expectations a little? I just find it a little slow, click the button, wait a bit, app loads, click the button, wait a sec, app responds. That kinda thing.

Being the 'hard to please' type, how's the phone/txt part of the XDA/Jam type device? Easy to use?

I think with the XDAIIi coming out I may be best with one of those. Will pop into the O2 shop and have a butchers. :D

Ta. :D

Text messaging is not the Jam's strong point, though you have the various input options. Using it as a phone isn't so easy either but then I'm comparing it to the peerless C500 and that is unfair.
You have to remember the basic difference. The Jam is a Pocket PC with phone functions. Now I've got used to the buttons the phone functionality is fine.

I dont find the Jam that difficult to use as a phone anymore, and I have kinda settled into a routine with regards to the text messaging now which helps me use it better. I dont think I could go back to the C500 now having had the Jam and thats the best compliment I could give it.

Just certain functions, for instance loading TomTom is OK as is the App itself but when writing a txt it takes ages to catch up with the key presses. And i don't press keys that fast!! It just seems to be 'catching up' all the time, maybe it's me, no-one else seems to have this problem!

Disco Stu,

Can you use the Jam one-handed by using the application button? If not, what do you mean?

I was concentrating so much on the screen / stylus interface that I forgot about the call, end call, contacts and calender buttons around the control pad.
Naturally these make life a lot easier !
Also I then found out that you can very easily remap the other hardware buttons to your own choice of functions. So I have set the Voice Notes button to fire up the Start menu (similar to  XP) and then I can scroll down to the Programs menu and I'm away.

Sorry if I sound like a simpleton, it's the effect of watching boring England friendlies in the pub

Anyway, you can use the phone functions one-handed but when you get into the programs you will need the stylus.
