Pricing Policy

Well, I am still reeling over the intransigence of Orange Customer Services.

I am amazed at how different the orange pricing policy can be from operator to operator.

I was quoted three different prices from orange staff. In the end the most I could get the staff to reduce the phone to was £90.00. It started off at £250.00

However, my friends who have also upgraded their phones have received the phone for £40.00. They are on the same £30 talk plan and our bills are roughly the same at around £40/month.

Judging by the response on this board, a number of members have managed to secure the phone for less than £90, and are on price plans that is below the £40/month total spend level that I and my friends are on.

How can Orange justify a non-unified pricing policy?

I understand that a phone should be priced according to the contact plan that you are on. But why should there be a difference between two people who have an identical contract plan in both contract value and contract duration? Surely the pricing should not be left to the individual CS rep. (I was very polite to the CS at all times, though at the end I felt like ramming the phone up his ….)

Has any one else had a problem with non-consistent pricing from orange?

I understand there's a scoring system for customers. To answer your question customers who regularly overspend or have more then 1 account will be offered the handset at a lower price...

Yeah thats true, I got my M2000 back in December from retentions on a Talk 30 tarriff which i hardlys use, but my other Talk 200 handset on the same account I use a lot which pushes my monthly spend up, my g/f rang retentions the same day on a Talk 120 plan and it cost her £114.99.

Normally O work your monthly spend out by checking the last 3 months bills divided by the number of handsets you have.

I've figured the equation to calculate an upgrade.

Instructions to OCS:

1) Make Judgement on the customer requesting an upgrade

2) depending on the time of day and what you feel like use the following figures. (standard price £250)

i) if you are in a happy mood -250 pounds

ii) if its mid day and you have not had too much of a rough day -£200

iii) if its mid day and have had a naff day -£100

iv) if its evening time and you are about to finish your shift and you like the customer -£50. £0 discount if you feel indifferent to the customer.

Mu brother just upgraded same tarrif as me (talk 300) and got his upgrade fo £30.00.

If was really polite to the OCS staff and was charged £90.

I suppose its only because I like the phone that I'm not too bothered, about the upgrade fee!!!!

Hi, I got my SPV M2000 on thursday and I got it on upgrade for free. I originally tried to get one back in November but they did'nt have any in until last monday!, when I said I want to upgrade to the M2000 they asked me if I had been given an upgrade price so I said "yes, I was told I'd get it for free", they put me through to customer services or relations, something like that and they just took my address and details down then said it would be with me the next day. If you are upgrading to it and your 12 months have come around then just say you want it for free and if they refuse tell them to put you through to the Oragne disconnections dept. They don't want to lose your custom and your MONEY so they do everything to keep you for another 12 months, and that means they'll give you the phone for free plus give you a better tariff if you want.

My upgrade fee has been consistent - at £250!

retentions couldn't do anything so it might be bye-bye orange.

Have you ever actually asked for your PAK key RusselH? That's key to getting a good deal, pardon the bad pun. When I first phoned for an upgrade, they wanted 250. I said no, can get it cheaper on T-mobile, they transfered me retentions. Think about the department name! After the operator pretended to think that the M2000 was Orange only, I asked if they could price match. He said no. I then asked for my PAK code, was given a standard spiel about PAK and what it meant. Then he offered the phone at the same price.

So, I reckon that they are wise to folk knowing about retentions offering better deals, and that a lot of customers are trying it on, not really wanting to switch provider. You need to actually go through the motions to. I wasn't wanting to switch, but I was willing to.

Got stung a little though when I got it, after the stock issues were clearing, they bumped up the price by 30 quid. But it was in stock and I could not be bothered arguing.

I actually gave them my 30 days notice, then about 15 days later I rang them up and said the reason I wanted to leave O was because they didn't do the phone I wanted, and now they did with the M2000, and would it be possible to cancel the 30 days notice if not would they give me a PAK code to transfer to O2, they were ever so kind, giving me a M2000 for free!

I think part of the trick is if you don't get the deal you are looking for just leave it a day or so, they will make note on your account.... then ring back and have another go.

I also think that Orange has an unfair pricing policy, but I am not complaining now!!!

Just phoned Orange to upgrade to the M2000 on the Everyday 50 Tariff, i was quoted £349.99. Then asked the dude if they did price matching and quoted the Onestopphoneshop of £24.99 for T-Mobile Relax 200 18mth tariff (obviously forgetting to mention the 18th contract) and he went away to see what he could do... Then put me through to some other guy (Retentions I think) and all of a sudden i was quoted £39.99 for the handset. That's all!!

Another 12 months of ED50 Heaven!

I am so happy now, my little blag worked! All that waiting was worth it. Roll on the weekend!

I'm just on the phone to them now - want to upgrade from an spv classic on matched t-mobile 750 mins tariff (£14 per month) - the grumpy girl I spoke to wouldn't bite on your scam al, sayin they only matched the tarriff, not the phone

am just on hold after asking for my code 'cos I was leavin  guess will have to bail+try later if they don't sort me out,I don't want to leave o and they don't do this tariff anymore!!

Joel

UPDATE: she said 250 was the lowest they could charge - it'd be free if my last 3 months bills averaged >£50, ~40 quid if I averaged >£30  Who the hell did you speak to al?

The dude i spoke to last (which i think was in retentions) was called Simon.

I have done this blag a few times! I have only ever paid for 1 phone in 5 years (expect this time ) and that was my first for £10! :(

Tips:

* Be nice, very nice! Make small talk etc.

* Make sure you get someone cheerful. If u get a grumpy one, make ur excuses and hang up. Then try again.

* Act like you don't really know what you want. All you know is that you can get it cheaper or free on another network.

* Be thankful that they are trying to help you.

* Make comparisons on price, especially between networks.

* Express that you want to stay Orange because they are a good company and you don't want to be forced into switching networks beacause you cannot afford the upgrade price.

* Basically, Blag it!!

Good luck. Let me know how you get on.

Just so you guys know, it's actually a PAC (no "code" on the end). PAC stands for Porting Authority Code. Generally it's accepted as "PAC number".

I paid £250 for mine. It was as a new connection though.

I did have a contract that was due for upgrade on talk 120, but I wanted Orange's new student promotion (and a new phone number at the same time) so I was quite happy to pay the £250. I did a buyback in store worth £50 so that covered some of the cost.

For what the phone does and has let me do, I say it's worth it - just a shame about the replacement mishap.

That is very true, mention Modaco and the will KNOW that you are at it. Just play dumb, "what's the difference, O2 do it for X per month?" etc etc.

For the M2000 I said I wanted WiFi. It's the only phone they do that does it, so there was no argument over trying to see if I'd take other handsets.

Thanks to this thread i have just got a free M2000 upgrade. I am currently averaging £70/month on mobile bills. Told Orange that i wanted my PAC so that i could transfer to O2 who are offering a better deal (I didn't even check if this was the case or not). Very nice Orange lady came back immediately and offered free upgrade. :D

I am currently using an E200 which has been great for the last 14 months so i hope the M2000 is as good as everyone seems to think it is.
