What makes a MIO owner happy?

What makes a MIO owner happy? Getting rid of this piece of sh*t phone and getting a REAL smartphone and I've finally gotten one, an E200. No more 8390 junk! No more broken GAPI! No more chipping paint! No more camera locking up the entire phone! No more Chinese-only apps! No more skipping keypad! I wrote to support today just for laughs and what did I get back? I got an email (which is amazing, last year several requests for help were completely ignored) which contained a list of email addresses for support for various products. Naturally, the Mio had no support email address, just a URL to that tired old web site that is about as useful as teats on a bull. But I don't care because I got a REAL phone! I'm finally a happy Mio owner because I'm finally rid of my Mio! Woo hoo! So SCREW YOU and your mother, mitac! The pain is over and you can't do a thing about it! No more overpriced, bug-ridden, half-assed, unsupported mitac garbage in this house. Now to decide if I should try selling it on ebay or if I should do the right thing; smash it with a hammer and mail the pieces back to mitac with a note attached that reads "You".

And THAT is what makes THIS mio owner happy. From the bottom of my heart and in all sincerity, F U MITAC!

Markgamber - I found your post a little ambiguous. Are you saying you like the Mitac, or do you not? In future, please could you not try to dress up your message and just actually say what you mean?

Seriously, cheers Mark - funniest rant I've read in a while. Top marks my friend! =D>

What made me a happy MIO owner. Finding that someone actually won my phone on ebay. Sucker

Seriously, what junk compared to the awsome smt5600.

Problem is that there was no such thing as a C500 when I bought the 8390. Going by specs, the 8390 seemed to be the best thing going and, to be honest, it had the potential to be a very cool phone and the phone isn't really the problem, mitac is the problem. Bugs can be fixed if the people that caused them care but everyone at mitac could be dead, cold and buried and still not care less about the junk they push out the door.

Sorry to be so ambiguous, Stu. I usually try to let my feelings known but I'm not the most open kind of guy. ;-) In reality, I'm a pretty easy-going kind of guy. If you doubt me, head over to howardforums.com and read my rant in the T-Mobile section concerning how great their customer service is and how pleasant they were yesterday. No sarcasm there, they did their job and I was happy as could be and let it be known because I appreciated it. So it took quite a bit to push me to the point of writing this rant and I mean every word of it. In fact, I emailed every address I know of at mitac from past correspondences and sent this link. The last time I did that, they actually went and read it and got pretty upset that their users were supporting their trash better than they were. Maybe you'll recall how they went public and said they'd fix the GAPI problem and post the fixed ROM on their web site. That, of course, was complete bullsh*t and I knew it even at the time. So I'm hoping they all go and read it this time, too, and maybe get a sense of what kind of reputation they have as a company.

Finally, I posted the phone for sale here but I didn't get one PM or message. Not a single one. Stereo headset with mic and mute button, extra heavy-duty battery, Boxwave USB connector....not a nibble. And I'm not at all surprised but I told my wife I'd post it for sale so I did. I'll post it on ebay eventually and if I can get the $187 I spent for the E200 and shipping from the UK, I'll be ecstatic. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers the 8390 junk and mitac a completely worthless joke of a company.

Oh! If you didn't see my post elsewhere....several years ago I retired a computer to the basement after it's power supply went up in smoke, literally. There was smoke and flame. So a couple days ago I needed a 12v fan for something or another and figured I'd dig one out of an old computer (being a programmer, I have tons of old junk in the basement) so I started going through old boxes and came across the one with the burned up power supply and who's name was on that supply? Why mitac, of course! I laughed for a long time over that one. I'm laughing just passing along the story now!

Edit: Had to fix a couple typos. I'm a programmer, not an English major. :-)

Basically i've been using Nokias,Samsungs,Siemens,SonyEricssons . Once owned basically all perform same functions-calling,displaying,good camera, nice screen, ringtones.Price too range in average.Nothing spectacular nothing special just phone. Two thing no other kind of device beat them is Battery life and Voice quality.Period.Cell-phone.

Mio8390 is designed to integrate best of both world-cell phone and Pocket PC.Until you hold them in hand, you would be surprise by the size-it feels so small.Perfect size.Elegant -beautiful.Parts are build cheaply ie sd card and headphone cover. But overall the body feel solid.Hell nobody will drive BMW's into the forest and river as advertised in TV.I doubt any other smartphone in market beat it by big margin in build quality.

MP3 and Video: I sold ipod, iriver IHP120 because sound coming through them were not my liking.I use RioRiot and Iriver IMP350 with Grado SR-60 headphone. This to mention that i'm very choosy in terms of music quality.Music through Mio8390 beat all my expectations. It's little "bright" side but sound as good as those MP3 players. Excellent!

I always encode DivX in 2 disc as not to loose much video quality.I've been encoding since 2001.In Desktop I use custom Zoom Player for maximum video quality. In home using Marantz DVD Player.DivX movies in Mio8390 was one of my biggest surprises in so small screen.VERY EXCELLENT!!

The functions available in this phone alone beat any other "normal" cell phone for same price.Viewing documents, games,SD card support(expandable memory),Customisation..basically most of Pocket PC functions.

Connect to desktop through USB recognises as another device and can explore.Cool!

Camera: get digital camera..what you do with phones? I use Manual controls and never took any serious photos through any phones i owned just for contacts or fun.Though quality of camera in this phone is poor.Maybe par with most phones. But nothing spectacular.

Bad: speakerphone is very very low in volume.Calls are not so loud but acceptable and good inside offices where outside noise are not so loud.May have to press very hard to ear in busy traffic area.Battery last 12 hrs ie need to charge almost every day.Super poor support in English.Only this forum exist.

Summary: I'm very very satisfied with Mio8390 although next time i'll not buy this. I paid around US$150.In this price you'll not get any other smartphone. I very much doubt other smartphones which are double the price to have double advantage to this.If you want good quality call get normal Nokia,If you want long Battery life get normal cell phones.I wanted smartphone for cheap and i didn't regret a bit.The first time i'm most satisfied with a Mobile phone. The hunt ends!!!!!!!!

"Camera: get digital camera..what you do with phones?" Well, you seem to play mp3s and videos on them but I don't see anyone writing condescending crap like "Get an mp3 player". If they put a camera in the phone, it should work. 25% of the time it not only doesn't work, it causes the entire phone to stop working and it will never be fixed just like everything else in the 8390 that doesn't work or doesn't work correctly. And I have a digital camera. I have three of them, in fact. And a new E200 that has already proven itself far superior than the $400 chunk of trash I got from mitac.

Why do I care when I have a new phone? Because the 8390 is still sitting on my desk, being unable to even give it away, and mitac should be held accountable for completely ignoring the people that paid a ton of money for their unsupported junk.

wow, all the hatred. i have a mio 8390 and the only thing i don't like about it is customer support and its very hard to find accessories for it.

anyway the camera works fine, never freeze up my phone. WMP is great too, but i wish there is a decent stereo headphone for me to listen to it.

and mio 8390 is the only device (i think) that support up to 265K color. i watch movies in my phone and quality is amazing.

thank you all

Well I hope you all have better luck than I and a lot of other people did. I suspect mine has reached the waste management center by now and good riddance to bad rubbish.
