Bluetooth DUN Profile

Yes it's true! I found a way to make my BlueAngel use my 3G phone as a dial-up modem. I've been hunting for something like this for a while, and I finally found out how to do it in a post on XDA Developers.

I've been a little annoyed about this profile being disabled on the BlueAngel as I have a 3G phone from Orange with 50mb data free per month. Needless to say I would prefer to use this free data instead of the expensive T-Mobile data.

It's actually so easy to get the bluetooth DUN to work.

Here's what to do:

Download BTWCE1.4.1.59.rar from here or alternatively BT_Huck.zip from here.

Extract BTWizardProfiles.dll from the archive.

Go to the Windows folder of your BlueAngel.

Rename the BTWizardProfiles.dll to something else so you have a backup copy.

Copy and paste the BTWizardProfiles.dll that you extracted into the Windows folder of your BlueAngel.

Edit your registry as follows:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ExtModems\bluetooth_dun]

Port="COM7:" (string)

DeviceType=00000009 (dword)

FriendlyName="Bluetooth DUN" (string)

Once you've done that, soft reset your BlueAngel.

Then go to your Bluetooth Manager, and click New.

Choose Explore a Bluetooth Device

Find your phone and select it.

When it's done discovering services, select Dial-up Networking and tap Next.

That will create a shortcut in your bluetooth manager for dial-up. (you may want to pair with the device too - mine didn't ask me to, but I did anyway).

From here you're pretty much on your own. Double click on the shortcut you just created, and it will prompt you for connection to use. If you don't have one already select New Connection. It will prompt for the number to dial. On Orange it's *99#. I'm not sure it's the same for other networks. Then it will ask for username and password. You shouldn't have to put anything in. I saved the password and hit the connect button. A little black B popped up on my title bar, and within a few seconds I was connected and able to browse using internet explorer and chat online usine messenger services. Voila! :D

BTW - You can't go into Settings...Connections to set up your connection. For some reason it doesn't work. Don't ask me why. I have to use the Bluetooth Manager to connect.

UPDATE: I just discovered that if you go into settings and connections after you have created your bluetooth shortcut and connected, you actually don't need to create a new connection. You can go to Advanced and then Select Networks, and choose Bluetooth Settings. This will then use your nice shiny new bluetooth DUN connection as the default connection method. 8)
