easy dial

does it exist?
did I just make it up?
does it lurk in the guise of a free program I haven't yet found?

gah

biggest gripe with the whole dialler thing is exampled as follows

call sister.  I have intellidialler installed but as have numerous
contacts with similar names it takes 5 keypresses
                to get dialling.
sister not home

try her mobile.  takes another 5 keypresses !

surely there must be an easier way!

oh and while I'm at it - I had individual ringtones on my E200
why can't I have them on my M2000?

You simply must get Windows Voice Command.
Press one button and say (eg.) "Call Kylie Minogue on mobile" then "Correct" and then all you have to do is reply, "Yes dahling, it's Disco Stu. I'll be round in 10. Ciao !"

I've never found a way to view my Contacts list that is useful for all numbers so this is essential for me. She (the software, not Kylie) does sometimes get confused in the pub, what with all the background noise.

...or if you are not dating Kylie, you could get a software called MobiDial...this allows you 36 (I think) speed dials on 4 screens...I have a screen for Family, one for mates, one for sport (coaching contacts) and one for misc...this will also allow you to send SMS to their mobiles by tapping and holding the persons button...

Cheers
Nick

hello all,
..er, i don't have any of the 'fancy' dialling programs installed on my spv m2000. i find clicking the contact button (one), scrolling the bar down to the relevant contact (two), clicking on that contact and clicking the relevant number (ie. mobile, home or work) so it dials (three and four) is er... somewhat easy and er... EASY !

<shrugs> ..works a treat too !

ps. if anyone does have kylie's number, care to forward it to me ?   ;)

yes it is more direct but needs two hands - the stylus for scrolling etc
I have no problem using the stylus for diary etc
but using the phone should be a one handed operation in my book

..oh, ok... i appreciate your comment but surely you'd have thought upon purchasing such a device that maybe one would need to use two hands more often to operate it than say an ordinary mobile phone ? i know i thought this before, during and after buying my spv m2000.

..alternatively one could always get one's secretary to dial numbers for you ?   ;)

I dunno how much help this is, but the ETEN m500 comes with its own software in ROM:   You press the Contacts button on the front of the phone (1) and it pops up a screen with the ten most common numbers you phone.  Press the relevant button and you're calling it (2).    For me this means I very rarely need to do more than 2 presses to dial who I want as I only phone less than 10 people regularly.

ETEN also includes Voice Command as part of its ROM if you prefer to talk to the phone instead.

I quite like PhonePlus! which sounds identical to Mobidial (above) and costs $16.49 from PocketGear. The stylus still has to come out for writing the text though

Perhaps this is the solution for the cost-concious PPC user..

'No... NO    NO Goodbye'

Might give voice command a go and see if it's any better

If you want a better dialing solution with less touches you should consider D9.  It's a freeware solution that does T9 predictive text for all your contacts similar to the smartphones dialing solution but uses the screen instead of hard buttons.
