Still getting used to the keyboard...but..

I can't seem to get the phone to remember my network key. I'm not sure why.

Am i right in thinking that on a soft reset I loose my network key settings?

Also can someone reccomment a plug in that shows me the WiFi signal strength. I have some issues with wif kicking in and then gprs kicking in.. how can i set it not do do this!

Cheers people...

Soft reset shouldn't lose any settings so don't think that'll be the problem.

Sorry, don't know of a wifi signal plug in. Congrats on getting the Blue Angel, hope you like it ALOT more then the C500! ;)

get wififofum version 0.3.3

http://www.aspecto-software.com/WiFiFoFum/Download.htm

this will sort you out, the network key will be remembered, but if you are trying to get on someone else's network and get it wrong, it will keep asking you!

if your gprs keeps cutting in when trying to go online it means you have no internet connectivity, so check in wifi manager that you have a signal, and check your network card is set to connect to "internet" not "work". and then check the network itself is set to connect you to the "internet" and not "work".

i dont understand all this connect to "internet/work" stuff, but when using activesync over wifi you have to change it to "work"

Let me know how you get on.

The internet and work stuff is a legacy from the very 1st PPC I had.. I remember on the ist Ipaq 3600 series that had PPC software on it, it was hugely confusing and it's good to see that it's not changed since! I have no idea why they do that, but I tend to leave alone and no bother with messing the settings.. I can connect and i am leaving alone. I played around last night then couldn't connect or browse over Internet. So I'm leaving alone.

do you happen to know why I don't have a ringtone when someone calls Line 2? I know it's not fully supoprted.. the phone rings but I don't hear it! (LIne1 is fine!)

i dont have line 2, but my brother does, i know its not supported. but he has got an answerphone message on line 2, obviously as its not supported can't pick it up! so he's got the permanent symbol on his homescreen!!! hahahaha, must be really annoying, because when you have more than one icon on the homescreen you get that silly voice bubble thingy, so you cant tell whats actually there until you click on it!

So as its not supported i dont see a way to assign a ringtone to it, can you receive calls from line 2?

Well for your brother.. here's what to do..

Dial his answerphone and press * then he can put his line 2 number into it and then password and get his messages. I'f just set this as a speed dial.

Anyways.. yes the phone shows someone is calling, as a normal call but there is no ringtone, si i'm confused.. again!

Line 2 is supported as far as the phone shows someone is calling, but then that's about it..

I hope your brother clears his icon. I know you can get cream for that.

nice one cheers for that. maybe Orange will release an update soon that will include FULL line 2 compatibility. is a bit annoying when you get a brand new phone and it doesnt do what your last one could.

Not that im complaining, its one of the best phones ive ever had.

I'm going through that 'learning' phase, where i need to re-learn things.. Just waiting for my screen protectors to show up then i can bash away at the screen!

Have you seen those magnesium cases. I was thinking about getting one but nbot sure if it will be too bulky.. do you use a case?

I always buy one, use it for about 4 weeks then realise it's a pain in the ass, and by the time the phone is too knackered to use i would have changed it anyway.. or thats what Orange insurance is for ;)

this is my first pocket pc, had it 6 months now, so i know it pretty much inside out.

I heard that there arent any screen protectors that are compatible with it at the moment, but if you've found some, nice one, i saw the leather case that Dade did a review of, that looks really cool, might get that

http://www.modaco.com/Javo_Leather_Case_Review-t206051.html

as for Orange insurance, good as it is, over the years its gone a bit downhill, when i had it years ago it was free, then when i got my 9210 it was £5 per month, now its £5 per month and an excess charge of £15 per claim, which you can get waived if you sweet-talk the customer sevices operator.

They also ask you EXACTLY what you were doing when the phone was damaged, the girl i was talking to said on many occasions she's had people say they broke it while going to the toilet and she has to ask them what they were doing, i.e. number 1 or number 2 and i dont mean which line they were using!

Not sure about that. I knew that Dade when he tested the Blue Angel prior to release couldn't use screen protectors but that was discovered to be a result of pre release hardware. All release Blue Angels should be able to use most screen protectors. Mine came with one and it's still working (if a little grubby) 4 months later...

Just do a search for Marting Fields screen protectors. I've ordered some (but for the O2 XDAIIs) so they should be fine.

9quid for 3 I tthink including postage.

I've been through almost every brand and found these to be the best, they're not stcky ones and crystal clear.. the hardest part is keeping the unit free from dust when you put them on...

I just need to make sure I dont scratch anything till they arrive...

Has anyone seen those magnesium cases from proporta? I'm interested in if they are actually too bulky or just a little useles.

Any comments welcome.

Hmm, I came across them myself when I was on the lookout. There was once or two posts here and there saying they were outstanding, but they just set off my spidey-sense for some reason. Going by the presentation on the site (and some of the other snake-oil products they sell), I was thinking that the positive reviews are "astro-turfing" (fake grassroots support). Check this link to see the music industry being caught-out doing this last year or so! Some people call me paranoid, I prefer to think of myself as a realist. Why bother with spam when a few faked message-board posts will get you a lot more sales without doing anything that'll will make you look all that bad?

So, as a real person, you say they are good? ;) Might give 'em a chance next time...

Just because you're paranoid don't mean they're not after you!

No.. if you noticed I didn't put in where to buy them from, i'm a genuine user. I had some experience of them on my P900.

TO be honest, i went through one trying to get it on. The trick is you can't expect yout screen to be totally dust free, but you know that you will drop on the protector and then see a load of dust under it. If you've had a C500 then you'll be used to this ;)

Basically clean the screen, and as quickly as possiblr lay over the protector. you'll never get it perfect, no matter how much you try, so just let it lie (so to speak)

The worst protectors are the sticky ones, after 7 years of using pda's i've been throught a fair few products. There was some called writeshield i think, but i think these are the same as martin fields. There was also a brand called G3 or something, again I think they were all made by the same people.

Hey, they're only 9 quid or so, so it's not the end of the world if you don't get on with them, but I think that they're the best of the bunch.

Cool, good to hear. I have write-shield myself, with no dust under it I might add (except a little by the edge, off the visible screen). Came across IIRC a video on the web on how to put them on. I ordered a mini-kit with it (brush, cleaning pad, lint-free cloth), must have helped. Apparently they are reusable,

for my 2pence worth, Martin Fields are great protectors...... agree with Bronksy that you have to be damn quick to avoid dust but they are so clear it is hard to know you have one on........apart from the dust bubble!!!

had the writeshield too and they are easier to put on but i thought they looked a little too 'milky'......... although writing on them was great, just like paper and there were no figner smudge marks either

personal choice me thinks ! ;)
