,Aug 22 2005, 11:34]The Universal IS VGA.

I love my one, and actually think the form factor isn't bad, it's pretty thin, and power packed...

P

I loved yours to Paul but you wouldn't let me keep it ;) Why the thief nicked the C550 when these were around beats me :)

And I thought the quality was great, I liked the "slab of slate" look and thought that the keyboard was fantastic for it's size. Wanting the keys to be spaced out more but the size to be reduced to that of a jam does seem to be a bit contradictory....

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we are in the process of putting pictures from the MoDaCo Event up here.

As attendees will be aware, someone at the event thought they would steal one of the charity raffle prizes - namely the SPV C550 (box and all).

We are currently continuing investigations, which includes checking all of our photographs and the Microsoft CCTV material to determine if there is any evidence there.

If any attendees can offer information regarding the perpertrators, please contact me in confidence... we have already received information about who could be responsible, but I would like to collate this information.

If indeed the person who took the phone, albeit deliberately or accidentally, is reading this - please get in touch while there is still time to do so.

I shall be talking with Orange, Microsoft and the MoDaCo team over the next day or so determining whether there is a case for Police involvement.

Thanks for your time... and thanks everyone else for helping make yesterday a GREAT EVENT despite this hiccup :)

I hope you catch 'em! Great event otherwise.

I had to leave before raffle - were all prizes claimed??

I was joking about the size of a jam!

Dom's Universal had screen brightness down and it looked washed out. Turning it full brightness looked much better - but still qvga? I look forward to seeing it VGA.

The form factor is very useful - tablets will definately be the way to go; I'd prefer the Wizard form size to throw in a pocket. I think it will also look smaller in silver, because the black is so solid looking, but that's merely cosmetic.

About the keys: they're kinda square cut, which felt slightly odd, but very nice size for typing comfortably. The device will enter an odd space tho, more than a blackberry, less then a laptop, but quite large. Great to throw in a briefcase I guess.

i did like the m5000, and my cunning plan to kidnap paul and his m5000 didn't go according to plan.

apart from the idiot who ruined it, i think it was one of the best meets yet, and fingers crossed orange/ms will let us have another one

my current view from the supervised playing with it i had, would be maybe have some buttons on the screen so when in tablet mode you can use it like a normal pda or maybe a slightly larger screen to get rid of the blank space around it, and maybe a compact flash slot for that microdrive thats sitting in a draw

later

Too bad I couldnt be there but its worse hearing about the phones. The fact that the money is going to a good cause means whoever too it must have been desperate and should really give it back. No naming or shaming needed

I had a great time, was good to meet up with everyone again!

Shame about the c550 thief - such a pointless thing to do as the IMEI number will be blocked and I doubt theres any underground hacks to change it given that its a new device. Let us know the outcome!

Other than that was all good

Early start (had to get up before 7am!) and then long train journey from Rochdale to London

I had a good play with the M5000 - was a great little device, with a really usable keyboard, and the flip-around screen will keep it nice and protected + allow use as standard PDA easilly. (It doesnt turn 360 degrees though - the Microsoft representatives were telling us how in America when they showed it off someone picked it up and despite the obvious resistance turned it the wrong way and then ended up with the screen in one hand and the rest in the other hand and said "is it supposed to do this..." NO you *&*$£%!!!!!! )

Still a little too large for me though - I'll wait for the HTC Wizard methinks!

Also had a good chat with the guys from Astraware, and picked up a bit of news for upcoming games ;)

Quiz was fun, although I knew hardly any answers... our team didnt win :D

Didn't win anything from the raffle either, except an Orange baseball cap. I know it was completely random, but it was funny how Will drew the first ticket out of the hat for the X-Box, then when no-body claimed it checked his tickets and lo and behold was the winner! :)

Then retired to drinking establishments. I had to leave soon aftwe we got to the 2nd place which was probably just as well seeing some of the photos afterwards :( - anyways its true what they say about the price of drinks in London - £3.45 for a 330ml bottle of Lager - - so its probably just as well for my bank balance's sake!

Then long train journey back to the North again!

I'll look forward to seeing ya all at the next meet!

Big Hi to everyone, great to meet new faces!

Sorry about the standy uppy sitty downy quiz round... *lets chalk that up to experience!*

(i'm moving and no Broadband at moment!!) - so i'm learning to play FORZA racing - badly on the XBOX!!

Current furniture update : 2 sofas' arrived so the beanbags have some company, only 20 days till the bed is delivered! - still looking for a futon!

Trust me if i could fix a raffle, I'd enter the car ones at Heathrow!

Come to think about it.. :)

Anyhow, Mono.. get planning the winter event.. i need more prizes!

I always pay my dues for the raffles but for the sake of fairness never actually enter! Maybe i should consider that for next time :)

I'll be contacting MS and O asap to try and squeeze another event in before the new year, we have some (behind the scenes) changes coming up though so we'll see what happens!

Also just a bootnote - the theft is not being laid to rest - we are continuing to work on tracking the culprit and will do so to our utmost ability.

Seriously, be warned, the MoDaCo community has not let me down for nearly 3 years until Saturday, and i have absolutely NO intention of letting one idiot ruining that respect. I'd like to think i tackled the situation appropriately at the weekend given the circumstances, but i can assure everyone i had to employ some serious self control when announcing the bad news.

Anyway - on a lighter note, i'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves, and heres to the next event being even better! ;)

That's awful what happened with the phone! Who would think of something like that when u r at an event trying to socialise! Really low!

It's a shame though I couldn't make it on that day as I live in London...Nevermind, hopefully next time I'll be there!

Hope u catch them!

Mono,

Might I suggest for any future event that you employ either random searches or searching everyone?

I would have absolutely no problem being searched, I've got nothing to hide and it might be a good enough deterrent to make whoever was responsible think twice. It may also mean that Microsoft and Orange would have no problem with sponsoring future events, as they know any prizes would be well protected.

I for one am disgusted at whoever did this, not only did they steal from MoDaCo, but from the potential winner and from the charity concerned. I hope that whoever did it is having trouble sleeping at night. For a good couple of hours, doubt was cast on everyone who showed up, and I'm sure we all want to deal with whoever it was.

I hope the police force concerned take this a lot more seriously than my local force would. And I hope any leads you have result in something concrete.

yep... but i put it down to going out clubbing

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well, it seems i managed to also get a Chest Infection ;) (Going to doctors later this morning for confirmation, but mum is pretty much always right when it comes to illnesses!)

The cold i think has gone (no more headaches!) but the fact im typing this while sweats pouring off of me, and im sat underneath 2 big windows blowing freezing cold air onto me, (yeh, you really wanted to know :D), along with the fact i cant go a few minutes without coughing suggests it was two for the price of one.

Personally, i'd of been much happier with the Xbox :)

Ohh, and did you make it home in the end, james? :(

I would just like to add my belated thanks to everyone who organised the event. It was the first one I have been able to attend and despite missing out on the goodie bag, (I was talking to someone), not winning the raffle (well it is random isn’t it? 8) ), I did get the penultimate piece of pepperoni pizza :) and despite the unfortunate incident, I had a thoroughly good time and will endeavour to get to future gatherings.

I was unable to go on to the ‘after party’ as I had to deliver 270 letters to dwellings around a park in which an event I am involved in takes place on Bank Holiday Monday. I also spent a further 20 hours getting the programme ready for the printers on Monday morning.

As to catching a cold, a bit of a sniffle and cough on Tuesday but I put that down to only 10 hours sleep in the previous 72 hours… okay today , RazorD, what have you been doing?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I hope you're not suggesting anything bad :)

Its not SO bad, its not a chest infection, just a viral throat-thingy. But it still hurts just as bloody much. and i seem to be pulling more rib muscles hourly with all the coughing, which of course makes it all the worse.

(And hey, im a guy. This is way much worse than anything else. Mhmm!)

Just wanted to add my thanks. Excellent event - well organised and a lot of fun.

Great to meet many of the MoDaCo'ers. Contrary to popular belief in the Symbian world you all only have one head and are (mostly) sane.

Thanks also to the Team Disco quiz team mates - great group effort - and was very impressed by Stu on the obscure music stuff.
