M500 and SafeCOM (eBuyer) WiFi card problem

OK, I'm fairly new to WiFi and a complete PocketPC virgin, so can anyone help me with this?

I've got a Safecom WiFi card from eBuyer. It's been installed and working fine for several days/weeks. Suddenly, not quite sure when, it just stopped seeing my home network.

Thinking the card had died I tried the same card in the Boss's M500 at work, and it worked perfectly.

I've uninstalled, soft reset, reinstalled the WiFi drivers

I've deleted the WiFi settings for my home network and created them again by hand

I've turned off WEP and Access Control on the router

I've tried static and DHCP IP addresses

I've sacrificed two chickens

I just can't get it to see the network!

Trouble is, I did the Hard/Soft Reset trick to get the extra memory free, so I'm worried that OCS will want me to Hard Reset the phone to try to fix it. Don't want to do that unless there's no other option

Any advice gratefully received.

Have you checked a) that your M500 is seeing the card when you insert it (ie the wifi aerial icon appears on the task bar and :o that your M500 works fine with other SD and/or SDIO cards?

Thanks for the suggestions

Yes, the little aerial icon appears, and the blue light on the WiFi card flashes every now and then

I don't have another WiFi card to try it with, but my normal SD memory card is working fine

I've been doing some more testing, and I can sometimes get it so see the WLAN at work, but if I get the WEP key wrong it says "Unavailable", so I'll try it at home again tonight (no WEP) and see what happens.

I don't know if it's related by TomTom has been dying on me a lot lately too, so perhaps there some "radio" issue affecting WiFi and BT? (obviously I don't really know what I'm talking about)

Any other suggestions still welcome!

i hate to say it but.....

maybe if you do a back up with active sync, then hard reset, let it instal all apps then try the WiFi card. see if that gets it going. if it does...

i think you shold then be able to hard and soft reset again, then back up from active synce and it should restore your M500 to how it is now. then, um.... maybe see through trial and error what, if any of the orange apps may be needed to run the WiFi card.

if it doesn't work with a hard reset, go to orange shop, test the card with one of their M500's, if it works, bingo, your M500 is buggered so you get a new one.

if none of the above works, maybe try shouting at it.

Well shouting at it did have some effect, but not a lot (thanks for the tip anyway!)

I've done a Hard Reset, and installed the WiFi stuff first. Whay hey I thought - it can see my work network. Installed all my other crap. Boo I thought, where's the bloody network gone again?

I suspect there's some sort of conflict somewhere.

Anyways, got it home, can get it to see traffic on the network, but all it comes up with is Rx CRC errors! ](*,)

Downloading a different driver version (strangely the website version is older!)

Failing that I'm off to ebay to get me a SanDisk one

Well TBH i don't know

I saw that it could see the network (although i never tried to attach to it) and went right ahead and reinstalled everything else, thinking it was fixed.

Only later, when I tried to connect to the network, did I realise it wasn't working

TBH i'm just going to buy another card and see how it goes. If it works great, if not I'll claim it back from work and give it to the Boss (who wants one anyway).

I'm not inclined to spend any more time on this POS thing - it only cost £20

FWIW i do know that the card works - so if the new one fixes the problem I'll put this SafeCOM one up as a freebie here if anyone wants it

i'd take it.... see if it works in my M500 :o

Sold to Mr Goonie there, once my new one arrives and works I'll send it off

PM me your address.

As you're in Holland, and I'm tight, I'll just send the card and you can download the drivers (I'll send you a link)

Funnily enough, I have had exactly the same problem, It worked fine for a few days then worked intermittently now, although it can occasionally find the networks, it won't connect. I've sent the card back to ebuyer for a replacement

I got a returns number from eBuyer and asked for a refund, and got a replacement card (SafeCOM one again) from USBTech delivered next day - I didn't want to wait 4 weeks for eBuyer to get more stock.
