All well and good to put it in the "shop", but they seem to have no stock. Not online, and not in my local shop either. Pah...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Anyone had luck getting one from Orange over the phone yet?

I've rang a couple of times today, and Orange say it's not released yet.

I think what's happened is that The Register got hold of a press release, and have probably took an announcement of a new product as an actual launch.

This is probably like the M500. It will be business only for a few weeks (Infact, the impression i got from The guy at the modaco event last month was that it will be business only forever!)

But, we'll see i guess.

Hmm another lurker of the forums is brought out by the forthcoming universal.

I spoke to premiere support last week and she said it will be available for me to upgrade to and she would text me once its out.

The way I read it was that £400 was the highest price, doign some maths today, I reckon people whgo spend around £100 per month will get it free or cheap, but thats my speculation....

Im just bouncing off the walls to get it though!

With the simfree device itself retailing at around £650 it is NOT going to be cheap.

As millay (welcome into the light btw!) says, I'm afraid getting one of these free will probably only happen to those with average spending per month upwards of £50.

Really hope we don't end up with another of those annoying "Why can't I get this device free?" threads!

Don't worry, Perfectly happy with my M500, after the 40 odd page on that launch which i was posting in each hour, i think you're safe.

This could either continue or end my 10 year relationship with Orange.

I'm sick of being told it's coming, then it's not, then given a firm date, then a vague one again. Now they issue a press release saying it's launched, but none of the various Orange companies actually have it on their network. It was interesting to hear the Orange monkey I've just spoken to claim that Orange SA were nothing to do with Orange UK and were not their parent company. Until I talked them through going to the Orange.com website and actually reading it. Don't Orange advise their staff to browse their intranet and learn about the company anymore?

There's one interesting fact quoted by one of her superiors - there's only 8 M5000's in the country. Well, I must have handled all 8 then, as not only did I get my hands on them at the MoDaCo event, but I've handled other M5000's that other's have been trialling. In fact, I think I've seen more than 8, so some of them are being handed round. Either that, or yet again another Orange employee is giving out BS. I wish they'd quote the company line, and not try to guess when it's being released - this in my mind is Orange's biggest problem.

Why is it so important to me? I run my own consultancy, and have a firm order for a mix of Small Business Server & clients with a mobile solution - this is awaiting their purchase of several handsets & PDAs for their sales force. They are already with Orange, and like myself have been told varying dates and were relying on the 'late September' that they'd originally been told. They've asked me to look into the possibility of using other networks, so I'm currently awaiting details from O2 and Tmobile.

Oh well, rant over.

Small business server. It runs on Windows Server 2003, and is a mix of Exchange, SQL Server, ISA server for up to 75 clients.

More importantly, it's priced so that smaller businesses can afford it.

Ok, to resolve the complaints regarding launch date/availability I have added the following info to the news item as taken from the original source (The Register).

Orange said the M5000 will go on sale for £400/€600, depending on tariff. It will be shipping in the UK, France and Switzerland in October. The handset will come to the network's other territories by the end of 2005, it added.

This was not included in the original news item posted, so causing the confusion over shipping date. I have also edited the title to reflect that this was an official announcement of the products launch, not the device actually going on sale.
