Rikaline 6033 + SPV C500

Hi all,

I've just imported a batch of Rikaline 6033 Bluetooth GPS receivers. I'm toying with it to check compatibility with the various popular smartphones and PDAs. I'm stumbling when it comes to the Orange SPV C500.

The Solar GPS paired fine and worked straight away, no messing with COM ports or anything.

This Rikaline one, although the phone reports that it's paired with the Rikaline, isn't actually paired (the Rikaline reports no pairing - the blue light keeps on blinking) and Tomtom reports "no GPS device" futher confirming that it isn't paired in reality.

I've trawled this and other forums and found some posts about outbound COM 6 and 7 but I can't set these up unless the Rikaline is paired and I can only assign one com port to the Rikaline device at a time anyway.

Anybody got any ideas, your help would be very much appreciated.

If you go to TomTom (mobile 5), you have to choose for 'other wireless gps' (menu 5,6,6,6,1) and it will work, just let me know if you need more help.

I know how to use tomtom to set up different bluetooth GPS units (I sell them!) but this Rikaline 6033 is causing me trouble.

The SPV reports that the Rikaline is paired, but the Rikaline's bluetooth light reports that it isn't paired and Tomtom also reports no GPS device.

I refuse to believe that the C500 is incompatible with the Rikaline 6033 so what's going on? It works fine with an I-Mate Jam (T-Mobile MDA) and other devices.

johncrone very kindly provided this solution and I can happily report that it worked first time! Thanks buddy!

1)Delete your GPS device

2)Copy the Regedit.cab file available from me directly into the start menu on your SPV and then click on it to install the registry edit program.

3)Pair your GPS device again

4)Edit the name to GPS

5)Add incoming comm port 6

6)Now edit the registry, if required create the keys...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TomTom\GPS Engine\

Device = GPS

Enabled = 1

Start TomTom and wait a minute, that should do the trick.

Can you give a little more detail regarding:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TomTom\GPS Engine\

Device = GPS <string>

Enabled = 1 <dword>

Please ;)

Best regards

Get Regedit from this post:

Below are the step-by-step instructions for setting up your Rikaline with your SPV C500. Hope this helps you.

Disclaimer: This procedure involves changing the Registry. It is very, very unlikely that you'll mess up your phone but to be on the safe side I recommend that you back up first.

Follow these instructions carefully. When I tell you to enter something into your phone, use exactly the same uppercase and lowercase letters as I do.

1) Pair your GPS device in Start\Settings\Bluetooth Settings

2) Edit the name from Rikaline to GPS

3) Add incoming com port 6

4) Connect your phone to your computer using ActiveSync

5) If you don't have a registry editor already, copy the attached RegeditSTG ZIP file to My Smatphone\Storage using the Explore function of ActiveSync

6) Go to Start\Accessories\File Manager on your SPV

7) Scroll down to select Storage in File Manager

8) Press List View

9) Scroll down until RegeditSTG.zip is selected

10) Press Menu\Zip Extraction\Extract Here to unzip the RegeditSTG.exe file into \Storage

11) Once the file is extracted you are returned to the top of the File Manager file list. Scroll down until RegeditSTG.exe is selected

12) Press Menu\Run [Action]

13) You are now in Registry Edit mode

14) Scroll to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and click it with the joystick

15) Scroll to SOFTWARE and click it with the joystick

16) If there is a TomTom option on the list, scroll to it and click it with the joystick and go to Section B at the end of this text. If there is no TomTom option, go to the next stage:

17) Press Menu\New Key

18) Rename New key #1 to TomTom

19) Select Tomtom and click it with the joystick

20) Press Menu\New Key

21) Rename New key #1 to GPS Engine

22) Select GPS Engine and click it with the joystick

23) Press Values

24) Press Menu\New\String

25) Change Value name to Device

26) Change Value data to GPS

27) Press Done

28) Press Values

29) Press Menu\New\DWORD

30) Change Value name to Enabled

31) Change Value data to 1

32) Press Done

33) Turn your SPV on and off again

34) Start TomTom and set your TomTom GPS device as Other Bluetooth GPS

TomTom itself should pair the Rikaline and the blue LED will light constantly instead of blinking (but it won't be paired unless TomTom is running).

Section B (this is only applicable if you've been told to go to this section)

1) If there is a GPS Engine option on the list, scroll to it and click it with the joystick and go to the next stage. If there is no GPS Engine option, go to Section C at the end of this text.

2) Press Values. If "Device" and "Enabled" appear then go to the next stage. If they don't go to Section C at the end of this text.

3) Click Device with the joystick

4) Change Value data to GPS

5) Press Done

6) Click Enabled with the joystick

7) Change Value data to 1

8) Press Done

33) Turn your SPV on and off again

34) Start TomTom and set your TomTom GPS device as Other Bluetooth GPS

TomTom itself should pair the Rikaline and the blue LED will light constantly instead of blinking (but it won't be paired unless TomTom is running).

Section C (this is only applicable if you've been told to go to this section)

1) Press Menu\New Key

2) Rename New key #1 to GPS Engine

3) Select GPS Engine and click it with the joystick

4) Press Values

5) Press Menu\New\String

6) Change Value name to Device

7) Change Value data to GPS

8) Press Done

9) Press Values

10) Press Menu\New\DWORD

11) Change Value name to Enabled

12) Change Value data to 1

13) Press Done

14) Turn your SPV on and off again

15) Start TomTom and set your TomTom GPS device as Other Bluetooth GPS

TomTom itself should pair the Rikaline and the blue LED will light constantly instead of blinking (but it won't be paired unless TomTom is running).
