Alarm problems partially resolved!

:) :D ;) :D :) :)

As you are probably aware of, I had some real alarm issues lately...

After extensive questioning in a lot of forums, someone has replyd to my questions with a solution.

It was in Dutch(posted at http://gathering.tweakers.net) but I will try to translate it for you...

Seeing that I was not the only one with these problems, I think it will be helpfull to a lot of folks with a wizard(and maybe even other devices)..

I also attached a Word file, with pictures of what the program looks like, and a walkthrough.

Here goes:

The problems I encountered are due to a bug, which has been in the operating system since WM2003.

The problem ocurs after a duplication has occured in your events database.

This is not only the case for events/clock/alarm/appointments, but also for startup programs and deamons

There is a freeware tool which resolves a lot of these and many other problems(eg. slow device).

First download the program Checknotifications by Scarybear software(you can google it up).

Install the programm and start it up on your ppc.

Now, if you look closely left under "application" you will see an item called clock.exe.

If you scroll to the right, you will see under "dialog title" something like: daily reminder (in dutch Dagelijkse wekker).

You can delete this by pressing your stylus on it for about a second and choose delete.

You can do this untill all your daily alarms which you do not want are gone.

Beware to only remove the clock.exe's which has the remark under "dialog title"

Turn off your Wizard (mda/xda/vpa/m3000/qtek/i-mate whatever) by pressing the on/off switch for about 5 seconds and click yes.

Now you resolved the unwanted Alarm issues.

A usefull tip which you can use with this program:

It commonly occurs that you have to reset your device(lock-up, installing new software….)

Because of this, your events database will get really big, because every notification/item will be executed multiple times.

Because of this your PPC can get really slow, sluggish.

By running this program once every couple of days, and press “clear” (on the top right, next to “log”) your events database will get a lot lighter.

To do this, you must push “options” and then “settings”

Now a screen pops up with two check boxes underneath each other.

Check them both.

Now if you press ok/cross and go back to the main screen of the program, you will see a couple of items are red, these are duplicates.

Now if you press “clear”, all the duplicates are wiped clean again.

I tried this, and it worked like a charm for me, but I will state that you use this at your own risk.

Thanks for BadBoy18 from gathering.tweakers.net for explaining this to me….

Greatings…Maaz

Hurrah! Just had a couple of tries with this. Found it to work when I clear EVERYTHING from the list and turn the phone off completely. Probably mashed something else up but at least the alarm now works with notification. I was about to do a hard reset out of frustration, just hope it all works fine.

Thanks!

I just had this issue the past weekend and was able to fix it with the problem with installing the Check Notifications software found here http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=reminders

it was weird it all stared with having a reminder of an allday event 2 days befor it happens. damn bugs.

yeah but one problem with this piece of software is that it starts hanging indefinitely after a while (3 weeks/1month/2months), making it unusable in the long term. ScaryBear was aware of the problem (I read their forums), but the product has been discontinued and the soft is no longer available for download from scaryBear (because the problem the soft was trying to resolve only affected WM2003 devices apparently).

So I am not sure it is a long-term solution.

I have been using it for a long time, and it did help with the alarm problem, but after a while it hangs on forever - an uninstall/reinstall does not solve the probelm - Hard resetting is what I ended up doing ev. few months - which is not a solution...
