Guest lekus Posted December 15, 2005 Report Share Posted December 15, 2005 It's caused by one of the cab files that gets installed from the extended ROM if you don't bypass it on your first start up. I think it's specific to T-Mobile i.e. the Vario although I forget the name of the cab. I was initially annoyed by it but it can become a bit of a life saver if you weren't meaning to use GPRS to visit a website. There have been a few occasions where unless being prompted by the annoying dialog that pops up then I probably would've been paying for GPRS charges without realising. If popped up when there was no WiFi, BlueTooth or USB connection and a GPRS connection was going to be made, then it would be much better I think. I also find it good, I think I've hooked up to wi-fi but it actually hasn't found the network or whatever and this immediately tells me that I'm not wi-fi'd up and that it's going gprs so I can cancel the request and sort out the settings... That connection message you also get, but you have a popup window (not bubble, popup) on MDA Vario. OK takes you to www.t-mobile-fav.co.uk (NOT home), while cancel opens your bookmarks. I've set mine to about:blank. You could probably hack it's references out of the registry (GUID's and related keys, etc) to stop it from loading on next reset I think. MitchellO's guide covers everything you need to know about stopping the customization of your phone after a hard reset. Bear in mind you'll lose any settings, messages, contacts, etc. http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach...e=post&id=16540 Specifically, you might want to NOT install the following CAB's, as I believe they will customize and setup the things that you don't want: TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab - I think this adds the "You are about to go online" popup dialog to IE. TMO_UK_pIEDefaultPage_Signed.CAB - Set's IE default homepage to tMobile one. Signed_TMUK_Cust_Wiz03000100.sa.CAB and/or CAB-Customization-TMUK-Wizard-01-04-03Oct05.CAB - I think one of these customizes the look of the phone, i.e. the Today screen theme, phone pad, etc. Signed_DiscoButton8.sa.CAB - Controls the fuction of the Vario's tMobile logo'd button? Not sure. I'm not sure if one of the customization CAB's above also affects the boot screen. You might also need to run one of the customization CAB's to get MMS working, I don't know which one if so. Don't run cusTSK.exe as this will start the customization process that you previously stopped by soft reseting. Above I've changed it to about:blank, IE's blank white empty page. Don't put quotes around it with whatever PPC registry editing app you use. I've just noticed a 2nd registry entry that looks similar, and I can't remember which one it is that you need to change. Change both to be sure. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\BrandedBrowser] "local_page"="about:blank" "home"="http://www.t-mobile-favourites.co.uk" You can change the values of both "local_page" and "home" to other sites. I decided to do a clean install this morning, then installed all but TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab in the extended_rom. However it then did not have MMS in Outlook. Grr. I installed TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab, and had the hated message, but still no MMS. I considered making a backup of the "clean" IE, and copy the exe over a branded install. Alas you can not copy exes in the ROM, so that was out. So I decided to do something stupid. Err, brave. I edited the config.txt file in the extended_rom, and remove the line "CAB: TMO_UK_Browser_Signed.cab", and rebooted. Hey presto. I now have Branded IE (\windows\BrandedBrowser.exe, which the (T) on the today page opens, I'll have to work on that), and unbanded IE. Woot! Guest treblechance Posted April 12, 2006 Report Share Posted April 12, 2006 I installed flash player 7 for windows mobile 5 and for some reason the message no longer pops up. I also unistalled flash player 6 and may have done some other things but it no longer loads the favourites page by default and doesn't ask that dreaded 'going online' question. Guest KixAss Posted April 19, 2006 Report Share Posted April 19, 2006 (edited) I've got a solution, but you'll need to go into the registry: Go to the registry Find: HKEY_ROOT\CLSID\{93AFDD66-D450-42F5-9997-1E58C5582292}\InProcServer32 Change the value of the (Default) field to a invalid/unknown filename, like PIEPlug.dll1 (with the one at the back) Start IE. I'm making my way through them all, but so far, what I've found is that if you open them in WinZip, there's a file called custom~1.004, which has filenames in. These filenames need to be converted into DOS' 8.3 format to find out what it's applying. I'm quite interested in what it's doing with all the files, but I'm not 100% certain what everything does.
