My mate recommended the GLOBALSAT BT-338 which is based on the SiRFSTAR III chipset however looking at ebay there is also the Holox BT-321 which reckons its better than the Sirf III chipset (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5844519784&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1). This is namely more channels, 32 over 20, its quicker to start up and lock on and its cheaper. Does anybody have any experience of using the Holox with the C550 or TomTom? Cheers Rob PS : I'm a newbie to the C550, GPS and TomTom <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My £45 off of e-bay cheapie seems to work well enough, after going through the hatfield tunnel the signal was re-aquired within about 5 seconds and it paired with TomTom easily. However it is quicker at TTF from a cold start (not that useful unless you are planning to travel by plane / train long distances with the thing switched off). The Auto switch on/off feature looks useful, BUT how comfortable would you feel with leaving a GPS unit on display in an unattended car? However it's imaterial if you are planning to buy a legitimate version of TTM5 as you'll get a decent GPS unit in the box. Guest welshblob Posted January 24, 2006 Report Share Posted January 24, 2006 Hi, I eventually got a Qstarz BT-Q880 as the Holox is trying to be another brand, Qstarz have a website (http://www.qstarz.com/) and it uses this new RFMD chipset. The pairing went ok once I understood I had to press the menu button under the bluetooth config on the C550 to add a new device. However TomTom couldn't use it with the "No GPS Device" message on the screen. I eventually got it to work by selecting "Other Bluetooth GPS" in the tomtom GPS config (from main menu 5->6->6->6->1="Show GPS Status"-> Configure then select "Other Bluetooth GPS"). I then had to rename the bluetooth pairing as "Other Bluetooth GPS" using that exact case and it works !!! Hope this helps somebody. Rob Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest Smudgetastic Posted June 19, 2006 Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 Hi I bought the Holox BT 321 from Ebay and cannot get it to work with my XDA exec!!! Ive tried every site available including Tom Tom, and the Holox website states that it is 'under construction' so offers no help. I would avoid this reciever like the plague as it seems poor quality and any manufacturer that offers NO support must be very poor indeed. In addition, the lack of advice available from resellers on ebay has convinced me never to buy technical goods from there as they seem only intent on shipping the goods and recieving the payment. My advice would be to find someone running Tom Tom on your device and buy the same reciever that they are using....just not from EBAY.
