How long does DOML delivery take?

As I've taken over the mobiles at work I (very kindly I thought) decided to get one of these myself. ;)

Anyone know how long I should actually expect delivery to take?

The site says 3-7 days, but that seems optimistic considering its coming from Singapore!

Any experiences?

I'm in the U.S. and actually got it in 3 days. It came much faster than I expected.

Ordered phone Friday, delivered from Hong Kong 8am Monday morning!

P

Just a quick note of warning about this seller - all is fine if you have no issues - but they don't reply to any emails except with a stock out-of-office 'we don't reply to emails as we're so busy' email, the phone number listed is an answerphone and they report *many* people ( including myself) for non-payment even after you have paid for the item and it has been delivered! If you add a comment to their dispute they automatically close it and you get an unpaid strike. I think it's a selling fee scam. I got my strikes from them removed as I could prove I'd paid.

Just my 2 pence worth....

Oh, and if the courier clears the UK custom for you they can deliver the item free and clear and send you a customs invoice upto 3 months afterwards. Parcelforce used to be good at 'forgetting' but revenue protection have got wise to that now :-(

ALWAYS factor it into the price, if you don't have to pay it, it's a bonus. Import duty is 0% on mobile phones, but 5% (ish?) on palmtop computers with calculator function, so watch out how it's described. (This is duty on top of the 17.5% V.A.T due.)

I seemed to have not been charged import duty, it's a game of chance however...

P

See my previous post. Who delivered it? And how is it described? If it says 'gift' on the customs form they're commiting fraud ( and HM R&C are onto them :-(

Binned the packaging now!

P

From memory, UPS and Parcelforce will not release items until the vat/duty is paid, so if it's from them you're OK. More and more couriers act as clearers for customs now and just bill you anyway afterwards. IIRC UPS also slap on a £10 handling fee :-(

FedEx...

I'm sure it'll be fine..... If not, there'd be loads of people moaning on his feedback. Unless the bill arrives after they have left it.....(sorry :-P) Still, it'll be no more than 20% over what you paid.

Like you say, anything you buy from abroad like this you have to be willing to take that hit!

P

Yeah, used to get loads of stuff from Japan like that ( minidisc units, a few aibos), but there comes a time when local prices get to a level where it just isn't worth it - and the royalmail/fedex/UPS etc starts recognising your address so nothing gets through :-(

People don't factor in the vat and get annoyed when they get a bill! But in some cases the 'i got it first' factor outweighs any potential excess cost 8)

I've been fortunate that anything I've got has either never caused any trouble, or if it has the manufacturer's local agent has been very helpful ( sony in particular) but it's worth bearing in mind that a lot of goods sold in Asia have a 'local' guarentee - if you want a 'world wide' guarentee you actually pay more for the product - but these versions usually come out a bit later and have multi-voltage adaptors / english manuals and possibly even slightly different specs.

How much was it out of interest?

Woah!

Just got the 818Pro from DOML, and they put the real value on the shipping note, so I just got hit for £95 import VAT

Glad work's paying for this now, it's turned into a VERY expensive handset - £480 + £95

Delivery was very quick though, I think I ordered it on Tuesday PM and it arrived here (in the UK) on Friday PM

Anything else is against the law and will get them ( and you for asking) into a dissproportionate amount of trouble for the money you save. They should at least make you aware of the tax though. Did you notce on the breakdown if they classed it as a phone or as a PDA with calculator function? Who delivered it as well?

Coincidentally, I have bought a few things from that guy, including my Sanyo C4 camera, and can vouch for his excellent service. Always quick and fairly, sometimes cheaply, priced.

The delivery note (from UPS) says "PDA Phone"

I wasn't really worried about the price, it's just that we didn't know and it made a big difference to the price of the handset. I wouldn't want DOML or UPS getting into bother over £100, but if they'd said (or I had thought of it) we may not have bought from there.

Anyway, I'm loving the new toy so far! :)
