Soft res&Wi-Fi&SD coming from Resco explorer!

All troubles with Soft res&Wi-Fi&SD are coming from Resco explorer! I lost so many time, but now I'm near 100% sure.

!!! Just uninstallation of Resco explorer dosn't solve the problem. You have to make a hard reset and never never install it. I like very much Resco products, but in this case their explorer is guilty for all these problems:(

What makes you think it's Resco?

Have you been running without it for a few days to "prove" it?

I use Resco every single day, so I'm reluctant to lose it.

Resco explorer is definitly "a must have" and I like it very much but without it I'm already two days "clean" :) - no restarts, no SD losts and etc....

Remember just uninastallation dosn't resolve the issue!!! A hard reset is needed!!!

I dont know any way to keep your SMS.

I use Jeyo Extender, which copies all SMS to the PC, but AFAIK there's no easy way to get them back onto the phone.

Anyway, I've rebuilt without any Resco apps and will let you know how it goes.

I've used Total Commander as a replacement for File Explorer and Registry Editor.

Nope that hasn't fixed it for me

Last night the phone did a Soft Reset again and WiFi wouldn't activate after that until I did a manual SR, although it did only do one when previously it would generally do 2-4 SRs in a 20 minute period.

I wonder if it's something to do with battery/charging?

Mine regularly does SRs when it's plugged into the mains power to charge overnight, and normally around 11pm. Although in the past it has done them when not plugged in to anything I haven't seen it do that for a few weeks.

I'm going to go stick with this build for a couple of days, and then go back to my previous build and see which is better.

Just one reset!!! It's may be an accidental reset.

Today is my third "clean" day and now I'm 100% sure!

Do you install Total Commander? It's a windows mobile 2003 application and may be there is a similar bug like Resco explorer.

Yeah, just one, but I'm testing this phone to see if it's stable enough for our staff - one unexplained reset is at best:

1. a support request, and

2. several hours work, and

3. no known solution so a loss of confidence in the user, and so on...

At worst it's a dropped call/data session, missed appointment, agent unreachable, agent unable to call for assistance...

I want Symbian-like stability, but so far no Windows Mobile device has got close to that IMO.

It may be TC, but then again it may be any one of at least half a dozen other apps, or some combination of them interacting in unexpected ways. If the only way to get "reasonable" (ie: not perfect) stability is to not install any 3rd party apps then it kind of defeats the whole idea for me.

I suspect I'll have to scratch the Prophet off the list of suitable devices, and look at the Wizard instead.

OK. But just one question... What is "Symbian-like stability"?! Hahahaha

Sorry

I can say categorically that (on my device) it is NOT Resco doing this.

Yesterday I did a hard reset, let it install the Dopod stuff (except the carrier settings, cos they're all for a different region), set ringtones etc. No other 3rd party apps at all were installed. No activesync partnership, no contacts, calendar items ... nothing - just the phone as close to "out of the box" as I could reasonably get. Then I setup my WiFi and 3 email accounts to test it with.

At the "usual time" the phone stopped seeing the SD card and WiFi would not enable. I don't know why, but it always seems to happen between 10 and 11pm for me, but it was fine at 5pm. The phone also did several Soft Resets overnight.

I've done another Hard Reset and not installed the Dopod stuff this time. Setup WiFi and a single email account, ringtones etc. Still no contacts, calendar, activesync.

I'll see what happens this evening and let you all know.

I don't know what it is yet, but it is not Resco or any other 3rd party app AFAICT. I suspect hardware/ROM, so if it goes again tonight I might try the iMate ROM.

OK, last night (with none of the Dopod apps, nor any other 3rd party apps installed) the SD card did NOT disappear, I had NO restarts at all, and I didn't have any problems activating WiFi.... but....

This morning I noticed that although I could still see the contents of the SD card I could not see some files on the card. When I checked the built-in Memory applet it said the card was completely full. Thinking it was correct I tried to delete a folder of junk, but it wouldn't let me. After a Soft Reset (and NOT trying the delete again) the card reported 647Mb free, which is more like what I had expected.

I'm going to leave the phone as is for today and repeat the same tests tonight/tomorrow to see if there is any consistency.

If the same fault reappears then I'll try another memory card.

I reckon that within 14 days I could have my phone back in the condition I want it!

OK, same thing happened last night

I've unlocked the extended ROM and installed the signed SD cab (dont know what it does, but the name of it suggests it does something to the SD card controller)

Will see what happens tomorrow morning

The signed SD cab is what a lot of people think is what is causing the problem. I'm 99% sure it is third party apps. For me it was PhoneAlarm by PocketMax.net . I did a hard reset and did not install Phone Alarm and I have not a problem since. There are a few more who say it was also Phone Alarm that was causing the problem on theirs as well.

It also could be PocketZenPhone or even MS voice command. Anything that has memory leak problems.

I also no longer have the ext rom installed and my device runs much faster.

Oops I did not notice that you had zero third party apps installed. That is strange......??? :??:

Some people have found that just deleteing the omap850.dll file that the signed_SD_patch.cab installs fixes the problem.....

I may have made some progress.

Almost the same setup as before:

1) No 3rd party apps,

2) No activesync,

3) WiFi setup,

4) 1 x email acc setup,

5) installed the Ext ROM unlocker

6) installed "Signed_SD_Drivers.sa.cab" from the extended ROM

7) No other Dopopd bundled apps installed

This morning WiFi wouldn't start and the SD card had gone.

Not exactly conclusive, but a good start. If I can repeat the fault tomorrow morning then I'll try installing all the other bundled Dopod apps (except the "Signed SD Drivers") and see if there are still problems.

I remember a T-shirt that said "That light at the end of the tunnel is actually a train heading towwards you"

OK, this time I've gone for a full rebuild (minus the bundled Dopod apps - all of them!) because I just want a a working phone again.

I use Sprite Backup, which I think will automatically cure the "full SD card" effect when it runs - it does a reset, backup, reset.

We'll see what happens tomorrow morning., but for now I have my toy working again! whoo hoo!

Did you check SD as storage device in email acc setup?

Nope, never have done.

FWIW, and it has only been 24 hours or so, this build seems reasonably fast and stable - none of the earlier problems now I've got rid of ALL of the bundled Dopod apps.

Never did conclude my testing - the errors kept reappearing and eventually I came -> <- that close to ditching the device

However... the Imate ROM update appears to have fixed ALL of the problems for me. Put it this way I have looked, but so far haven't noticed ANY of the previous issues.

The Dopod ROM is expected out in April apprently, but I doubt I'll go back to theirs - the Imate one is just fine for me.
